Google Maps Will Now Tell You How Busy Your Train Will Be

The Google Maps Will Now Tell You How Busy Your Train Will Be

Bow down to Google Maps. Not only can it tell you how to get from A-B, the app will now be able to tell you just how busy your train, bus or subway will be at any particular time.

No more being squished like a sardine on the 8:05 L Train when you could enjoy extra room on the 8:09, right? Now you can make an informed decision about whether or not you want to squeeze on. Or, wait a few more minutes for a vehicle where you’re more likely to snag a seat.

It’s rolling out on Google Maps in nearly 200 cities around the globe on both Android and iOS

Google Maps

The app predicts how busy your bus, train or subway is likely to be based on past rides. Google first tested the feature in Sydney in October, and now people all over the world can use it. Locations include 46 metro areas in the U.S., including Los Angeles, New York, Portland, and the Bay Area.

As for the world’s most crowded transit lines?

Train Station

The app has found that the busiest transport lines include two lines in Tokyo, Line 13 in Paris and three lines in both Buenos Aires and Sao Paulo.

New York’s famed L train–which, until recently, was on the verge of closing for repair– is the only U.S. transit line to make it into the top 10.

You can see the most crowded lines in various other cities here, FYI. No more arriving to work in an absolute stress – we hope.
