With an impressive six locations across San Antonio (and more in Dallas and Austin), Merit Coffee has a premium coffee roasting facility in an old warehouse on San Antonio’s Southside. This is where all the beans come from, with their specialty beans coming from a single farm or even from a specific area on the farm (micro-terroir), so they are limited in quantity and superior in quality.

Indy C.C. is a specialty coffee shop and espresso bar, lifestyle brand, and clothing/home goods retailer. Basically, it ticks all the boxes of a so-hip-it-hurts cafe, and we’re not complaining – the coffee here is fantastic. They source their beans from NY-based Parlor roastery, serving up all the classics alongside some creative specials. Try the iced cereal milk latte for a weekend treat.

This funky coffee shop screams Texas, paying tribute to the city’s cultural flavours in an Abuelitas chocolate mocha and their signature drink, the horchata latte. They roast their own beans fresh every morning and the aroma will hit you as soon as you pull upo outside. When it comes to a homey neighbourhood coffee store, Barrio Barista is always great.

This local’s favourite coffee truck is a must-visit for speciality brews; it proudly serves a locally roasted coffee, out of Round Rock, Texas. Those in the know flock here first thing for a cuppa joe and freshly baked donuts from The Pink Flamingo. Get there quick, as they often sell out! Opt for classic brews or grab a cortado or latte – all milk-drinks are made using low-temp pasteurized non-homogenized milk.

This family-owned coffee shop and roastery (complete with retro pinball machines that you can enjoy) has been a longtime staple on San Antonio’s coffee scene. Roger Chbeir opened the first What’s Brewing location in 1980, and it’s still going strong, with three locations now! It’s all down to the sheer quality of the coffee here, with a variety of coffees ranging from light roasted single origins to thoughtfully crafted and darkly roasted blends.

This Austin-based coffee spot also has a spot in San Antonio, which is great news for coffee lovers in the city. It’s all about the unique roasting of the coffee beans here, which takes place in 19th-century style wood-fired roaster. There’s plenty of different coffee blends to try, which you can also buy to take home. Be sure to try the “moon milk”. It’s made from a secret recipe that includes sweet cream dairy, in a half-moon or wintermoon.

Last but by no means least is Commonwealth Coffee. This popular brand has several locations across the city. All of the coffee drinks here are made are made with Austin-based Cuvee Coffee: from drip and personal pour overs to lattes and Americanos. They take pride in their pastries too, with rich, buttery croissants that are as good as any you’d find in France. *drools*
