In the hip Oud-West neighbourhood, you’ll find De Hallen, a centre for the arts, crafts, fashion and food in a cool industrial building dating from 1902.

Food Hallen is its food market, with independent food stalls where you can eat in communal areas that are built within an old tram shed.

The food is exciting, bright, vivacious and highly Instagrammable – which makes this a foodie’s paradise.

De Hallen cultural complex is in Amsterdam’s Oud-West neighbourhood. If leaving from the city centre (Central Station) it will take you 25 minutes to walk, 12 minutes by taxi and up to 30 minutes by public transport.

You can choose small bits and pieces to snack on from up to 20 different vendors. Most dishes are between €5-10, but that there are some smaller dishes for as little as €3. Larger meals stretch up to €15.

For two people with a couple of drinks each, you can expect to pay between €30-50 for your visit.

Food is served within 5-10 minutes, depending on the stall. Most people will order several dishes and linger over drinks so you should factor in 90 minutes to two hours for the visit. It’s worth it.

Food Hallen is open Sunday – Thursday 11:00 – 23:30 and later on weekends with Friday – Saturday 11:00 – 01:00.

It gets very busy at lunch time and late evenings, so if you can, try get here earlier for food and then enjoy a more relaxed drink afterwards.
