Finding the best Netherlands burgers was never going to be easy, with so much quality and variety to choose from. But hey, someone has to do it. We’ve done the hard work though and whittled it down to the 25 very best burgers in the country.

Some of these were so good that they recently made it into our top 50 Burgers in Europe and even top 50 Burgers in the world. You’ll find everything on this list from the humble classic cheeseburger, to massive burgers loaded with toppings.

We haven’t ranked them in order as the quality was so high, we’d suggest instead that you try to get through as many of them as possible and treat this as a burger bucket list…

With three locations around the city, this is easily one of Amsterdam’s most popular burger joints with both tourists and locals. Perfect after a few beers. Make up your own creation, or go for one of their classics.

What makes this great spot stick out is the burgers and the fries combination. The burgers are juicy and come with lots of options to customise them up to your liking.

The fries round it all off, with some great options to load them up with additional toppings and sauces. Safe to say you will not be leaving here hungry.

3. Hamburg – Rotterdam

Their huge main focus here is on the raw ingredients. That means 100% fresh and antibiotic-free beef which is formed fresh daily on the premises. Even their sauces, toppings and condiments are made fresh wherever possible.

4. Ellis Gourmet Burger – Amsterdam

The name is a reference to Ellis Island near New York which was the main place for Europeans immigrating to the US during the last century. The founders believe the best burgers are in America and want to bring that culture back to Europe, hence the name.

They have two locations in the Netherlands and two in Belgium with plans to expand further in the future. If you live near one of these you’re pretty lucky.

The burgers themselves have juicy patties, thick crispy fries and great dipping sauces.

5. The Butcher – Amsterdam

With restaurants in Amsterdam, Ibiza and Berlin, they’ve already won top marks for the locations they pick. These juicy burgers are finished off with delicious toppings that will have you coming back time and time again.

6. Woeste Burgers – Eindhoven

They pride themselves in serving up burgers that are every bit as good as in a high end restaurant, but keeping the vibe casual.

The key is sourcing the very best produce and they size their burgers perfectly. So, you can just grab them in one hand and happily get stuck in.

7. BIT Grill and Café – The Hague

They are best known for their steaks and grilled meats which is their big selling point. That and a wonderful outdoor terrace that is an absolute joy to spend time on in the warmer months.

They are experts in handling beef and pride themselves on hand shaping the burgers daily. They flame grill them, so you are served up an absolute taste sensation.

8, Ter Marsch & Co – Rotterdam

You know you are going to be into a serious burger when you are handed a bib before eating your meal. In fairness, that is more of a brilliant marketing tool than anything because the burgers are perfectly formed and far from super messy.

Great craft beers, a buzzing terrace and a hip crowd make this one of the very best burgers you will ever taste. Quite simply one of the best Netherlands burgers you will ever eat.

9. Loft 88 – Utrecht

A beautifully designed restaurant that is light and airy on the inside, with one of the prettiest terraces you will ever see. Style aside, the burgers here are amazing.

A menu packed with comfort food like pizza and seriously lush desserts but their burger is where you should be focusing your attention. Big, fat and wonderfully juicy.

10. Rottiserie – Amsterdam

Although they have a main focus on chicken here, they do incredible beef burgers as well so you’ll find something for everybody. Those loaded sides are off the charts too. You’ll want to save some room for these bad boys…

11. Café Polly Maggoo – Tilburg

Not only do they serve some brilliant bar food but this also happens to be one of the best places for a night out.

They show all the big sports matches, have live music and great DJs, so the place is always buzzing. The burger and fries are exactly what you need for a big night of partying ahead.

12. Roffa Streetfoodbar – Rotterdam

The word ‘Roffa’ is slang for Rotterdam and even since they opened the first “Roffa” they’ve been growing super fast. You’ll now find them in three locations across the city, including Foodhallen.

For a really special and different burger experience, try the smokey burger which comes unveiled in a cloud of smoke with great fanfare.

13. The Dog’s Bollocks – Groningen

This is the ideal spot to come with a group of friends to watch the big sports games. It’s a saloon style bar, where they serve up some genuinely outstanding burgers.

14. Cafe Frits – Amsterdam

The sort of place you come when you want a serious cheat day and to indulge yourself. Alongside their burgers you’ll find great steaks, nachos and obviously great beers.

As the name suggests they are best known for their ribs, which come in huge portion sizes and are truly delicious.

The burger is more than able to hold its own though, with a big thick juicy patty that absolutely melts into your mouth. They don’t overcomplicate things with toppings either. Right up there with the best Netherlands burgers.

17. Ich Bin Ein Hamburger – The Hague

One of the most spectacular dining rooms in the country and as the name suggests they do amazing hamburgers.

There are plenty of other dishes on the menu but their classic “Royale with cheese” (pictured below) is a taste sensation that relies on the absolute best of ingredients.

18. Boeien Foodtruckrestaurant – Drimmelen

A gorgeous food truck set up with outdoor covered seating that is an absolute joy in the summer months. Their whole menu is inspired by street food from around the world.

Their BBQ style burgers served up with one of their large selection of craft beers is one fo the great joys of life.

19. Thrill Grill – Amsterdam

Thrill Grill has two handy locations in the city, and they rely on super high end ingredients to make their burgers pop here. One to try if you like a burger so big you can barely fit it in your mouth.

Once you taste it you will quickly see it is one of the very best Netherlands burgers.

20. Burger Club – Rotterdam

Burger Club is home of the tastiest burgers in the city since and are constantly winning awards.

For something really special try their Rossini burger which has a slice of Fois Gras on top of the meat and which will melt in your mouth. *drools*

They also have a super happy hour from 3pm-6pm every day with big discounts on their burgers.

21. Firma Pickles Burgers & Wines – Rotterdam

They aim to do what very few burger restaurants do and that is focus on the wine offering and pair them accordingly. That means 30 different types of wine by the glass to choose from and knowledgeable staff to help choose.

Their burgers can either be ordered as they are or you can make your own from a long list of toppings. You’ll find them in several cities and towns across the Netherlands.

22. Café de Walvis – Amsterdam

A laid-back place to come if you want a nice simple burger and beer without too much fuss. Their lovely terrace outside means that an Al Fresco burger in summer is always an option.

23. Meneer Smakers – Utrecht

They have four locations around the city as well as a food truck that pops up at events. That means you are never too far away from one of their burgers and that is a good thing.

They are all about the big bold toppings with dozens of great combinations to choose from. The only tricky thing is fitting it all into your mouth in one go!

24. The Beef Chief – Amsterdam

Simon runs his burger operation from a 1975 Citroen van. You can find him in a brewery, selling burgers at pop up events and even running a burger catering operation.

You’ll have to follow his social channels to track down the latest locations, but when you do you’ll be rewarded with a burger that is good enough for heaven. Easily one of the best Netherlands burgers.

25. De Burger – Eindhoven

Super popular spot where the vibe is chilled and you’ll find a great selection of beers, salads and desserts. You come here for one reason though and that is because of their selection of absolutely insanely good burgers.
