Few foods around the world are as popular as the hamburger and there are some incredibly unique burgers out there. We wanted to focus on the countries that have taken the burger and put their own unique slant on it.

1. Crispy Fish Burger – UK

The English love fish and chips and you’ll find a great burger version of it on many pub menus around the country. You won’t need to travel there though as this great recipe lets you whip one up at home.

2. Jalapeno Guacamole Burger – Mexico

Technically you could say this is more American or even Tex-Mex than a pure Mexican burger, but the ingredients are from south of the border. Big on flavour with a great little kick to it.

3. Frikadellen – Germany

You’ll find these in many countries, including Denmark, Belgium and Poland but the word comes from German originally. Frikadellen are eaten without a bun and are absolutely packed full of flavour.

4. Frita – Cuba

A mixture of pork and beef that is served up on a soft Cuban bun with shoestring potatoes. Originally a street food in Havana, they have inevitably found their way to the Miami streets now too.

5. Aussie Burger (With The Lot) – Australia

The Australians love doing things in a bold, overstated way and that is also true of the burger. With the lot usually means pineapple, fried egg and most importantly, beetroot.

6. Loco Moco – Hawaii

A simple but incredibly tasty beef patty with a fried egg on top and served up on rice instead of with a bun. A sauce made with the cooking juices brings the whole dish together perfectly.

7. Veggie Burger – India

No one country can really claim the veggie burger but India does them especially well. The fact that cows are sacred here and their vegetarian cuisine is known the world over makes this a winner.
