Mexico boasts one of the world’s most vibrant and rich ancient history. The evolution of the first Mesoamerican civilisations such as the Olmec, Maya, Zapotec and Aztec can be seen all across the nation. Especially in the form of temples, pyramids and other ruins. The most famous among them are the Chichen Itza, Palenque and Teotihuacan.

The celebration traditionally involves decorating an ofrenda (family shrine) and enjoying family gatherings. There are also countless lively and colourful parades held across the nation full of revellers with intricate skull face paintings and elaborate costumes.

Yet another UNESCO recognised aspect of Mexican culture is mariachi music. Mexico’s regional folk music is one of its biggest claims to fame and is famous all over the world. Traditionally a mariachi band will consist of four or more members dressed in charro suits and playing a variety of guitars and brass instruments.

7. Cathedrals

Mexico is a deeply religious country with over 80% of Mexicans identifying as Catholic. Thanks to this, Mexico boasts some of the most stunning cathedrals in the world from the Catedral Metropolitana in Mexico City to Cholula’s colourful Santa María Tonantzintla and Los Remedios.
