2. The Sphinx is in the Bucegi Natural Park

You’ll find the Sphinx in the Bucegi Natural Park – one of the 16 national parks in Romania. The park is located in the Bucegi Mountains in central Romania, south of the city of Brașov. The Bucegi Mountains are part of the Southern Carpathians group of the Carpathian Mountains. Access to the Bucegi plateau is via cable car from Busteni or by car to Cabana Piatra Arsa and from there on foot – it’s a 30-minute hike.

It only acquired its nickname, the Sphinx, in 1936, which refers to the Great Sphinx of Giza.
