50. Kagga Kamma Nature Reserve

49. Umhlanga Lighthouse
Completed in 1954 in just under five days, this lighthouse is still every bit as pretty as it was back then. Grab a cocktail in the hotel and get a perfect Insta snap.

48. Nelson Mandela Bridge
This relatively new addition to the Johannesburg skyline has already become an iconic landmark. See it beautifully lit up at night time, and you’ll soon understand why.

47. Four Seasons Hotel, The Westcliff
It’s recently had a $60 million renovation and the place absolutely oozes class. It also comes with lots of space, with the hotel grounds spread out over 3 hectares of wooded hillside overlooking Johannesburg Zoo. You’ll find them here.

46. Knysna Elephant Park
No trip to Africa would be complete without an up-close encounter with the wildlife and this is the perfect spot to interact with rescued elephants in the Western Cape. You’ll find more info here.

Babylonstoren is a historic Cape Dutch farm that’s been elegantly transformed into a hotel with its own vineyard, spa and rustic gardens. Wander around and get snap happy among the vivid flowers.

42. Moses Mabhida Stadium Durban
Built for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, this striking stadium holds 85,000 people and is now used for everything from sport to concerts. The stadium is an architectural masterpiece.

41. Hermanus Whale Watching
Drive down the SA coast and you’ll find this wonderful little town that is the perfect spot to watch the whales (June to December). Unusually, you don’t even have to get a boat as you can even see the whales from the shore.

40. Muizenberg, Cape Town
A beach suburb of Cape Town, this sandy stretch is said to be the origin of surfing in South Africa. Make sure to get the beautiful coloured beach huts into shot.

36. Elands River Falls
These falls stretch up to 230 foot high at their peak. Given the hot weather and steep climb, you’ll want to try and visit between April and October for the best views – and easiest trip.

35. Inanda Mountain
About a 30 minute drive out of Durban, but worth the mini-road trip. When you get here you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views across the valley. Head for the Mzinyathi Fall signpost and follow them to ‘Matata Head.’
Just be careful….the road literally ends at the edge of the cliff face.

34. Otter Trail
A five-day trail along the coast (you can do smaller sections of it if you can’t commit to that much walking), where you’ll be at one with nature and see the rugged shore.

33. Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park
A vast wildlife preserve in the Kalahari Desert that actually stretches right up into Botswana. You’ll see wildebeest and springbok across the red dunes, with lions also calling this space home.

A rocky headland that has been known by sailors navigating these waters for hundreds of years. These days the ships steer well clear, and people prefer to get their selfie with the distinctive sign instead.

29. Drakensberg Mountains
The name given to the eastern part of the Great Escarpment, which encloses the central Southern African plateau and spreads into Lesotho. You could spend at least a week here checking out all the stunning vantage points.

27. Robben Island
The most sombre stop on the list as a former jail for political prisoners. In total, three former inmates of Robben Island have gone on to become President of South Africa, including its most famous resident Nelson Mandela.
“Instagrammable” in that it’s important to continue to share this important history.

23. Bloukrans Bridge

22. Hoyo Hoyo Safari Lodge
One of the best places in the whole park Kruger National Park to see elephants, with the amazing beasts even coming up to the swimming pool to try sip a sneaky drink. High-end safari lodge that is simply picture perfect.

21. Augrabies Falls National Park
You’ll find this scenic park located 120 km west of Upington in the Northern Cape Province. The rugged rocks and harsh landscape make it a photographer’s dream.

13. God’s Window
These majestic cliffs plunge over 900 meters, looking down across game reserves. A long hard walk to get to the top, but worth every single step when you see the view.

2. Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve
You’ll find this between the Hoedspruit and Acornhoek on the western edge of Kruger National Park. You’ll get to see some amazing big game here, but you’ll also be doing it in serious luxury.
