25th. Marino’s Pizza – Brandon
Thick, deep and crunchy crusts, a wonderfully rich tomato sauce and generous dollops of toppings make the pizza at Marino’s a must-eat. Their signature pizza is loaded with ground beef, lots of veggies, bacon and sour cream, which you can either have baked on in the oven or served cold. With friendly vibes, it’s no wonder why it’s so popular.
24th. Chicago Style Pizza – Hamilton
You don’t have go all the way to Chicago for authentic deep dish pies – this place is the real deal. They started their pizza making days in the “Windy City” itself, so you know that their pie is the real deal. What to order? Their Stuffed Pizza Pie is made in a deep dish pan and is just loaded with cheese and pizza sauce.
23rd. The Red Ember – Winnipeg
The Red Ember raises the roof when it comes to some of the best Winnipeg pizza. It started off as a hugely popular food truck, but you can now try their pies year-round at The Forks Market. The Classic with Zinn Farms Berkshire pepperoni, roasted Manitoba mushrooms, house-made Manitoba tomato sauce and mozzarella is a winner.
22nd. Pizzeria Via Mercant i – Toronto
For the second year in a row, this classic Toronto spot makes it onto our list. Pizzeria Via Mercanti is a charming family pizza joint with four locations and is known for being one of the top pizzerias in the city. You have to get their two layer pizza: ricotta, prosciutto cotto, mixed mushrooms, hot soppressata, topped by their famous margherita.
21st. Pizzeria Adamo – Montreal
This homey pizzeria with NY-style slices and whole pies is a real local favourite. In fact, we’re not sure that Montreal locals are going to be too happy we’re sharing this little gem. Thin, crispy slices come with toppings such as mozzarella, ham and ricotta or Calabrese salami. You’ll think you’re in the Big Apple itself – it’s that good.
20th. Descendent Detroit Style Pizza – Toronto
The key to a classic Detroit pie is the deep pans in which the pizzas are baked, which gives it a crunchy crust and soft base, with carmelised cheese on top. These guys knock it out of the park. The Truff-gh is divine. It comes with cheese blend, slow-roasted garlic cremini mushrooms, caramelized onions, double-smoked bacon and a white truffle sauce.
19th. Tennessy Willems – Ottawa
Tennessy Willems serves up authentic wood oven pizza, using local farmers and fresh natural ingredients, such as Mariposa Farms for their duck and cheeses. The pies themselves are light and fluffy, with perfectly chewy crusts. With toppings including duck confit paired with caramelised onion, white truffle oil, and Riopelle cheese, these are truly gourmet pies.
18th. The Curious Cafe – Kelowna
This cute restaurant has all sorts of delicious dishes on the menu, but we urge you to make a beeline for the pizza. They fire up the pizza in true Neapolitan style in an oven that comes all the from Italy but add a Canadian spin. The end result? A classic and tasty base with funky toppings such as braised lamb or fried capers.
17th. Pizza Garden – Vancouver
With three locations across the city, you’re never too far away from these authentic Neapolitan pies. They’ve been serving these tasty Italian-style pizzas for 10 years now, which hints at Pizza Garden’s longtime popularity. Just the right amount of char on the crusts and a tangy tomato sauce combine with creamy mozzarella for a slice you’ll gobble down.
16th. Vera Pizza – Winnipeg
Vera Pizza moves up a spot this year for its simple pizza, done superbly. It’s a no-fuss pizza joint where you’ll never leave disappointed by their fluffy pizza bases and piping hot toppings. There might be only nine pizza creations to choose from, but when it’s this good you don’t need any unnecessary toppings. Authentic and irresistible.
15th. Fiazza Fresh Fired – Ottawa
Do you have 180 seconds? Well that’s all it takes for the talented team here to bake your pizza in the custom wood-burning oven. Choose from either your own creation or their signature pies, with healthy gourmet ingredients such as truffle oil, Fior di Latte or roasted garlic. There’s also unique sauces bases, such as roast garlic or basil nut pesto.
14th. Pizzeria Ludica – Vancouver
Droolworthy pizza baked to perfection in a stone oven. What more could you ask for? The bases are thin and crispy, making for the perfect bite. Go gourmet with buffalo mozzarella, spicy soppressata salami or ricotta, as well as a menu of vegan pies with cashew cheese. Plus, there’s hundreds and hundreds of board and card games free to play with every meal.
13th. Tony’s Pizza Palace – Edmonton
Edmonton is really making a name for itself as a hotspot for pizza in Canada, and Tony’s Pizza Palace is a must-eat. Tony’s has been a staple pizza joint in the city since 1974 and is still smashing it. Try their classic New York-style pies with fresh zesty homemade tomato sauce and fresh mozzarella cheese for the ultimate carbfest.
12th. Pizzeria Farina – Vancouver
Taste authentic flavours of Italy at this cosy Naples-inspired restaurant in Vancouver. Add on toppings such as fennel sausage, provolone, parmesan and sweet peppers, or prosciutto cotto with peas and mushrooms. The dough is fresh and light, the crusts as crisp as can be and the atmosphere is always charming. Pizzeria Farina ticks all the boxes.
11th. Brigade Pizzeria Napolitaine – Montreal
This slick pizzeria makes authentic pizzas with a soft chewy crust with slight charring and tangy tomato sauce. There’s a DIY pizza topping bar where you can customise your own Neapolitan-style pizza exactly how you like. Then, watch it being fired up in their 900°F wood-fired ovens for 60 to 90 seconds, just like in Naples.
10th. North of Brooklyn Pizzeria – Toronto
For pizza just as tasty as you’ll find in the pizza hotspot of Brooklyn, this spot never fails. Our picks? The Special Fun Guy, which comes with smoked cheddar, truffle cream, cremini mushrooms, caramelised onions, chives, pecorino and lemon zest. Or, the Killer Bee with Calabrian salami, pickled red onions and honey.
9th. Spacca Napoli Pizzeria – Vancouver
Traditional Napoli pizza and local craft brews are true highlights at Spacca Napoli Pizzeria. Alongside all the usual suspects feature on the menu, as well as unique pies, including one with a ricotta stuffed crust. Yep, a pizza crust filled with creamy ricotta. One bite of the pizza here and you’ll be a lifetime fan.
8th. Die Pie – Edmonton
Now, we know this might be controversial – Die Pie is 100% plantbased, which means homemade, artisan nut cheeses. It’s not the traditional buffalo mozzarella but it is incredible. Pile on toppings such as crispy kale, hemp havarti, seitan chicken and cashew parmesan for a pizza feast you can really feel good about.
7th. General Assembly Pizza – Toronto
This hip counter service pizza joint has cocktails on tap and easily some of the best pizza toppings in the city. Think: Mozzarella, taleggio, parmesan, cream, black pepper or housemade lamb sausage. *drool* Funky vibes and friendly staff go the extra mile to making this one of the best places for pizza in Canada.
6th. Pulcinella – Calgary
Who knew you would find one of the country’s best pizzas in Calgary? Featuring on our list yet again this year, Pulcinella has it all. Domenic Tudda uses only the most authentic ingredients in his Pulcinella pizza, from Italian type 00 flour and olive oil to farm-fresh herbs and toppings, every ingredient is certified to the Napoletana pizza Association’s standards.
5h. Pizzeria Gusto – Winnipeg
These gourmet woodfired pizzas are as good as you’ll find in any corner of Italy. Perfectly charred, chewy crusts and authentic Italian and fresh, local ingredients. Pizzeria Gusto is one of those classic spots that just consistently serves up simply incredible pizza that’s well deserving to be among the top places for pizza in Canada. Nothing OTT, just brilliant cooking.
4th. Pizzeria NO.900 – Montréal
Fired out in just 90 seconds, these pizzas are pretty damn special. It’s all thanks to NO.900’s unique fleur de sel Mozzarella, which gives their pizza its characteristic flavour. They’ve won awards for their pizza in Canada and beyond, and we can confidently say they’re well deserved. Fold the thin, tasty slices in half for the perfect bite every single time.
3rd. Via Tevere Pizzeria – Vancouver
In true Neapolitan style, the pizza crust on the pies at Via Tevere Pizzeria is lightly charred, slightly chewy, and soft in the centre. With owners spending countless childhood summers in Naples, the folk here really know good pizza. The restaurant is also a member of the Associazione Vera Pizza Napoletana (AVPN), which is testimony to its authenticity.
2nd. The Good Son – Toronto
This cosy neighbourhood restaurant does a lot of things very, very well, but it’s the pizza that stands out for us. The wood-fired oven here is the heart of the restaurant, so don’t come without trying the irresistible pizzas on the menu. Go for indulgent toppings of Smoked Pork Cheek, Roasted Pineapple and Scotch Bonnet for a real flavour boost. It’s clear why The Good Son takes our No.2 spot in Canada this year.

Rosso Pizzeria shoots to the top of our list for the best pizza in Canada in 2020. Located in one of the oldest neighbourhoods in the city, Rosso is local, organic, and always tasty.
