Each year, more than 160 million visitors visit one or more of the 2,500 Christmas markets in Germany. While most of Germany’s Christmas markets are cancelled for 2020 due to Covid, one innovative innkeeper in Bavaria has devised a solution to bring back the festive cheer. A drive-through Christmas market in Bavaria: genius!

Reuters reports that Bavarian local, Patrick Schmidt, previously transformed the Bavarian “Dult” folk festival experience into a drive-through experience earlier this year. He’s now working the same magic for the annual Christmas market…

“It was a spontaneous idea because of the second lockdown. I thought the Dult drive-in also worked, so why not a Christmas market drive-in?” Schmidt told Reuters. “We don’t just sell a crepe or a pack of roasted almonds, we sell an experience.”

You can experience all the Yuletide joys at the market, from sipping on mulled wine to eating traditional German Christmas foods. There’s twinkling lights and even fake falling snow.

Visitors can also enjoy local crafts, such as gingerbread and artisan Christmas decorations available to purchase.

The market will be open Thursdays through Sundays from 11am to 8pm from now until December 20th, 2020.
