This market takes place at the Main Station and is one of the largest indoor Christmas markets in all of Europe. There’s a massive Christmas tree decorated in Swarovski crystals and tons of stall to meander through. Breathe in deep for the aroma of mulled wine and cinnamon-laced baked goods.
Bern is home to two holiday markets, but this one is the more traditional of them both. Stall range from Christmas gifts and everyday items to snack carts with street food and drinks. Cross through the fence and border of fir trees and enter a snowy wonderland.
This St. Gallen market is among the most beautiful thanks to the thousands of twinkling lights that illuminate the magical market. There are more than 250 vendors, though candle stalls are fun to watch as the candles are dipped and decorated. Choirs performing carols help set the tone too.
Located in the Old Town, this holiday market is transformed into a winter wonderland with lights draped across the bridge over the Rhine. There’s a carousel, Santa Claus and storytellers, so kids will be well-entertained. Wander between stalls and enjoy the moment.
There are tons of holiday fairs in Geneva, but this is the “official” holiday market. It opens at the end of November and runs through Christmas Eve, so it’s a great stop for visitors close to Christmas. Between all of the markets, there are a plethora of kid-friendly activities, crafts and delicious treats.
Further along the shore of Lake Geneva is the Montreux Christmas market. There’s a Santa run, lantern workshops and children’s programs, making it a more interactive market than shopping or indulging in treats. Get involved or simply drink in the joyful and busy atmosphere.
The Christmas Market in Einsiedeln is right next to a Gingerbread Museum, so enough said already. The square’s architecture is beautiful and only enhanced by the sparkling lights of the market. The one drawback: this market is only open for the first week of December, so plan ahead.
