Europe

Copenhagen oozes Scandi cool from every corner, with top notch food, stylish design and an always hip atmosphere. Basically, it’s one of Europe’s most enjoyable cities to visit.

Whether you’re spending a week here exploring the city and the rest of Denmark or are just stopping by for a weekend, we’ve got the unmissable things to do in Copenhagen.

Best things to do in Copenhagen:

1. Act like a kid at Tivoli Gardens

Tivoli Gardens was founded in 1843 and has become a national treasure and an international attraction. Fairy tale writer Hans Christian Andersen visited many times, and the amusement park even inspired Walt Disney.

2. Take a boat trip to see The Little Mermaid

This famous sculpture is made of bronze and granite and was inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale about a mermaid who gives up everything to be united with a young, handsome prince on land. Take a boat trip along the canal for the best views away from the crowds.

3. Snap some colourful photos at Nyhavn

The most quintessential Copenhagen snaps can be shot here at this colourful old port.

Check out Hans Christian Andersen’s dwelling at No. 20 and the oldest Nyhavn building at No. 9, dating back to 1681. So pretty that you won’t even have to add a filter.

Kronborg Castle is probably the most famous Danish castle, known worldwide from Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Every summer, there’s fantastic live performances of Hamlet that are a must-see when in the city.

6. Stroll through King’s Gardens

These pretty gardens are the country’s oldest royal gardens and date back to the Renaissance style by Christian IV in the early 1600’s. Spectacular flower beds and rose gardens bloom during the summer, and there’s live jazz music too. An ideal place to soak up the sun.

7. Have a feast at Torvehallerne Market

This food temple is Copenhagen’s largest food market and is open seven days a week. Torvehallerne consists of two market halls with over 60 stalls with fresh fruit, vegetables, fish, meat, cheese, bread and artisan eats from the Danish regions.

Eat breakfast at Grød, drink a nice cup of coffee at Coffee Collective, and try the tacos at Hija de Sanches.
