7 Unmissable Things To Do In Taipei

Taipei is often an overlooked city to visit, with other big Asian cities in close proximity getting all the hype. But there are many incredible things to do in Taipei, with lots of amazing things to see and plenty of great food to eat!

From night markets to skyline views and natural hot springs, you’ll soon wonder why you didn’t visit Taiwan before now…

These are the top seven things to do while in Taipei.

1. Shilin Night Market

You can’t come to Taipei without visiting a night market. Shilin Night Market is one of three night markets in Taipai, and is the most visited one. It’s busy but has everything you need.

Here, you can indulge in delicious street-food while you shop around for your souvenirs to bring back home. Definitely check out the street food, as each stall is different and worth trying.

2. National Palace Museum

Put on your art history shoes and take a stroll through the National Palace Museum. Here, you can gawk at a wide range of relics including ceramics, statues, bronzes, painting, and more.

Arguably some of China’s most famous collection of historical art lies in this museum and is worth a visit.

3. Taipei 101

Taipei 101 is not a college class. It’s way better than that. It has panoramic views of Taipei from over 500 metres above the ground and was once the “World’s Tallest Building” for a while.

Visit here for the beautiful skyline views of Taipei and the epic lift ride to the top. It takes a mere 40 seconds to get from the bottom floor to the observation deck on the 89th floor!

4. Try a Pearl Milk Tea

Another must-try in Taipei is their Boba, or Bubble Tea. The specialty Boba here is their pearl milk tea but you can also get other flavours as well.

It’s pretty hard not to stumble upon a Boba shop in Taipei so swing inside and try one yourself! There’s so many creative varieties you can get, so try as many as you can.

5. Soak in a Hot Spring in Beitou

The Beitou Hot Spring is Taipei’s only hot spring resort. Come spend a day here to relax after a few days of sightseeing.

Unwind in your own private hot spring room but don’t stay in there too long. It’s recommended to only soak in the hot spring for a maximum of 15 consecutive minutes at a time.

6. Longshan Temple

Longshan Temple is one of the most revered religious sites in Taipei. It’s elegance and beauty structure has withstood natural disasters and wars and has been rebuilt several times.

Since it is a main tourist attraction, consider visiting early in the morning to avoid the gangs of tourists and tour groups.

7. Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall

Chiang Kai-shek was an authoritarian leader who opposed China’s Cultural Revolution policies decades ago. The Memorial Hall is a tribute to this leader and is a popular attraction because of its importance.

Tip: the park area of this memorial is open until midnight, however the main Memorial Hall is only open until 6pm.
