Everything here is so downright delicious that we suggest starting off your first visit by sampling the Holy Texas Trinity. It’s served with a whole pound of brisket, various sausages, a rack of ribs and cornbread to top it all off.

2. Smokin’ with Chris – Southington

You’ll be tantalised and drawn into this BBQ joint by the delectable smell that practically fills the whole city of Southington. Sloppy spare ribs are the specialty, at least if you’re after ribs like we are. They’re drizzled and doused in some delightfully delicious sauce. And, the meat’s smoked for hours before serving, giving it the perfect smoky flavour to pair with the sauce.

3. Walrus + Carpenter – Bridgeport

As the name might suggest Walrus + Carpenter is one trendy spot. It’s a gastropub but with all of the fixin’s you’d expect from a down-home, authentic BBQ joint in any small city in the Southern United States. Wood’s Pit BBQ is also a Mexican restaurant, and while you might not think that this kind of fusion would yield a particularly tasty type of barbecue, we can assure you it does. The St. Louis-style ribs are fall off the bone good. And, they’re smoked to a tasty perfection that even the locals can’t seem to get enough of. Still feeling hungry? Sample the burnt ends. They’re just as good.

5. Chester’s Barbecue – Clinton

What’s so special about Chester’s Barbecue is that they serve a variety of different types of barbecue from various regions throughout the United States. This means that it doesn’t really matter what kind of smoked ribs you order, you’ll be indulging in one of the many fine tastes that come from the South. Pork ribs are slathered in sauce if you want them that way, but they’re honestly tasty without anything added on.

6. Wire Mill Saloon and Barbecue – Redding

At Wire Mill, you’ll find pretty much anything you’re looking for. They’ve got pulled pork, beef brisket, chicken, and homemade smoked sausage. However, it’s their ribs that are causing us to drool all over the place. Depending on the meat and the cut, they’ll smoke it for anywhere from eight to 16 hours, giving it a super smoky smell and flavour. Baby back ribs have never tasted so good.

7. Bear’s Smokehouse BBQ – Hartford

You didn’t think we’d forget about one of the most iconic spots for BBQ ribs in Connecticut, did you? Not a chance. Bear’s Smokehouse BBQ should be on any foodie bucket list when it comes to barbecue. They serve up special crispy ribs, which are smoked and then deep-fried in a delicious batter. Or, you can stick to the basics and treat yourself to a rack of some classic baby back ribs. It’s all delicious.
