Types of Airport Parking

Flying is stressful enough without having to factor in parking. With so much running through your mind (has everyone got their passport? Is my luggage too heavy? Do I have too many liquids?), taking time to research the best option for airport parking might not be high on your to-do list. At Enjoy, we compare US parking providers and the types of airport parking to find the best option for you. Rest assured that we always show the best prices, no extra fees attached – look out for Enjoy Choice options for a particularly special price.

Valet Parking

Valet is a type of airport parking service where a driver meets you at the terminal, and then takes your car to a secure off-site location during your time away. The driver will bring your car back to the terminal for you to pick up upon your return. This is the easiest option– however, it is also the most expensive. Having said that, if this is the parking option that you prefer, make sure you look out for deals to reduce costs.

While they’re the most expensive option, valet parking slots in general parking lots or specific valet parking lots are generally well-manned and guarded.

On-Site Parking

When people think of a long-term stay in an airport parking, they might think of a few days, a week, two weeks, or even longer. But a long-term stay in an airport parking lot is classed as anything over 24 hours. Most parking lots offer slots for a maximum of 24 hours, so be sure to check out the long-term parking solutions if you plan to stay longer. Leaving your car for a prolonged period of time leaves them vulnerable to thieves – be sure to choose a well-guarded, secure parking lot that’ll take good care of your car.

Off-site parking

Off-Site parking is where you park your car at a designated location, and then take a shuttle bus to the airport. The shuttle bus will pick you up from the airport and take you back to your car when you return. This is often a little further away from the airport, so you will need to consider this when you are planning your travels.

They’re also a lot less crowded than on-airport parking lots, but we do recommend booking in advance if there’s a particular parking provider that you like go with.

Airport Parking Lot Security - What to look out for

Airport parking lots have high quality security services, allowing your vehicle to stay safe and protected so you can travel with peace of mind. Here are some factors you can look out for when booking your parking to ensure you have the safest parking possible.

CCTV
Most parking lots will have CCTV – look out for cameras and try to pick a spot close to a camera.

24-hour surveillance
Most crimes in parking lots happen at night – look out for signs displaying that the lot is under 24-hour surveillance. Don’t just look out for camera surveillance – a car park patrolled by parking attendants or police is even better.

Location and proximity to the airport
If you’re concerned about your car or your own safety, be sure to park in a place that you feel comfortable. Perhaps that’s closer to the terminal so you don’t have to travel far, or maybe that’s in a part of town that you’re comfortable with.

How secure the entrance is
It’s always best to park somewhere that is only accessible by car, reducing the chance for opportunist thieves to sneak in.

Good signage
Look out for explanatory signage around the facility that reduces the amount of time you spend looking for the shuttle service, exit, pay area, and more.

Lighting
Most crimes that occur in parking facilities happen because of poor visibility. A well-lit parking lot reduces the opportunity for crime and provides a level of comfort to drivers.

Check the Airport Reviews
A practical method of understanding the quality of the park lot security is by analysing customer feedback. Have a browse of what others have written and use the reviews to decide whether or not you would like to go ahead.
