How To Get From Bangkok To Koh Samui
1. Fly from Bangkok to Koh Samui
This is the easiest way to reach Koh Samui– flights take just over one hour, leaving from Don Muang airport or Suvarnabhumi. Bangkok Airlines and Thai Air fly throughout the day and you can find tickets at an okay price if you book well in advance. High season will be more expensive!
This is the priciest option but is the only one that will transport you directly to the island in a short amount of time.
2. Get a Bus to Surat Thani and the Ferry to Samui
Buses fron Bangkok to Surat Thani usually leave from Sai Tai Mai (Southern Bus Terminal) and takes 10-12 hours to reach Surat Thani. From here, you’ve to get the 1.5 hour ferry across to the island itself. This is the cheapest option, but the bus journey can feel very long…

From Bangkok, you can get the train to Surat Thani. From here, it’s a shuttle bus to the ferry port and then a 1.5 hour ferry to Koh Samui. The express train takes 8 hours 45 minutes and the overnight sleeper (which is a handy option) takes just under 12 hours.
5. Fly to Surat Thani and the Ferry to Samui
Flights from Bangkok to Surat Thani are usually very cheap, and it takes just one hour. It’s generally much cheaper to fly into Surat Thani airport and then take a bus to the port for the ferry to Samui than it is to fly directly into Samui itself.
