Island life meets rural escape at Son Brull Luxury Hotel. Found in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea, on the Spanish island of Mallorca, this hotel is surrounded by 32 hectares of vineyards, orchards and olive trees, which are thousands of years old, giving you the feeling of being in a remote wine estate in the middle of nowhere. However, the town of Pollença is just 2km from the hotel, while the sea is just 6km away – and both are easily accessible on foot, or by car.

What Makes Son Brull One of Mallorca’s Best Hotels?

Formerly an 18th-century monastery, the hotel has all the advantages of a rural escape combined with the very best that island life has to offer – a nearby beach, but far away enough to avoid mass tourism crowds, while being surrounded by fresh produce everywhere you look. Son Brull is the complete definition of a hidden gem, and we can’t wait to tell you all about it in the guide below.

Son Brull Hotel, Mallorca, Spain.

Location

Surrounded by orchards, vineyards and olive groves, Son Brull is set on the lush hillsides just outside the town of Pollença, on the quieter northern side of the island of Mallorca. While Mallorca is known as a favourite summer holiday destination for many Europeans, the majority of visitors flock to the southern edges of the island, which is the largest in the Balearics, to visit places such as Marbella and Magaluf. As such, the northern areas of the island offer a much quieter and much more peaceful retreat, with fewer tourists, but still with the same gorgeous weather, making Pollença a perfect place for a peaceful retreat.

And where better to enjoy a peaceful getaway than going even more remote than the north of the island, and moving up into the hills where Son Brull lies? You can watch some of the island’s best sunsets on an evening, while waking up to nature’s soundtrack of local birds and crickets chirping among the vineyards and olive groves on a morning – bliss.

Room Types

The accommodation offerings can be split into three distinct types at Son Brull: luxury rooms, suites and villas.

Rooms and Suites

The ‘regular’ rooms at Son Brull are far from your average hotel room; in fact, their offerings start at Superior and work their way up from there!

These rooms are laid out like your standard hotel room – either double or twin beds, but that’s where the similarities end. Think luxury cotton bedding, a power shower, high-end complimentary toiletries and more.

The next step up are the suites, which are split up over two floors. The ground floor is the living area, with a smart TV, sofa and kitchenette, while the top floor is where you’ll find the bedroom and ensuite bathroom. Some of the suites even have a separate bath as well as a shower – perfect for relaxing in after a long day of exploring the hotel’s vineyards and orchards.

Villas

For that extra touch of luxury and privacy, booking one of the hotel’s villas is definitely the way to go.

Aimed primarily at families of four or larger, the villas are split into two bedrooms – one double room, and one twin room, with the option of adding another bed.

The villas are also set up for self-catering, so even though there are several eateries onsite, if you’d prefer to whip up something in the kitchen or fire up the villa’s own barbecue outside, you’re more than welcome to do so.

The villas also include private swimming pools, perfect for that extra layer of privacy, and these are cleaned daily by the hotel’s maintenance team.

Facilities & Amenities

With a focus on wellness and health, there are plenty of facilities at Son Brull that guests can take advantage of for the ultimate Spanish getaway.

There are tennis courts on-site, which can be used free of charge. These can be booked at reception, and you can book slots of up to two hours at a time. So, if you’re ready to get your Wimbledon on, then look no further!

In addition, the hotel runs daily yoga classes at 09:00 every morning, which is the perfect way to start your day under the Mallorcan sunshine. On the rare occasion that the weather is poor, the yoga classes simply take place indoors.

Also indoors, you’ll find the hotel’s state-of-the-art gym, meaning you don’t have to give up your gym routine just because you’re on holiday – there’s nothing quite like starting the day with a good workout to make you feel 100%.

Bicycles – including electric ones – are also available to hire from the hotel for guests, and cycling down to the beach or into Pollença is an excellent way to spend the day. Alternatively, you could cycle through the vineyards and the orchards – now wouldn’t that look good on your Strava activity log?

For those who come on holiday to relax – fear not! The hotel’s spa is the perfect place to do so, and it is completely free to use for hotel guests. There is a range of bookable treatments, including facials and full body massages, or you can simply unwind in the indoor and outdoor swimming pools with a glass of fizz for the ultimate relaxation experience.

Dining

There are two main dining areas in the hotel: The Bistro Bar and 3/65 Restaurant.

The Bistro Bar serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as snacks throughout the day, and is perfect for a less formal and more relaxed dining experience. This does not mean that the food is poor quality, though: the hotel prides itself on locally-sourced produce and healthy food. While there are comfort food favourites – pancakes, pasta and occasionally pizzas to name just a few options – there is plenty of choice here at all times of the day to grab something quick to eat and then get on with your day.

3/65 Restaurant offers a more formal dining experience, and specialises in Mallorcan cuisine. Expect locally-sourced produce, from locally-grown vegetables and fruits to locally reared livestock on the hotel’s own farm, and freshly caught seafood options on the protein front. The wine list at 3/65 Restaurant has over 200 wines to choose from, featuring an extensive range solely from Mallorca. This is aimed at those who want to experience fine dining, and booking is essential, even for hotel guests.

Experiences & Activities

As mentioned above, there are plenty of activities to do at Son Brull, with a primary focus on wellness and health.

Cycling is one of the main focal points, and guests are encouraged to take advantage of this, as the scenery surrounding Son Brull is some of the best in the Balearics.

Gliding through the vineyards and orchards on two wheels is the best way to explore the region, and means you can go further than on foot, especially during the heat of the day.

Golf is another popular activity, and while there is no dedicated golf course at Son Brull, hotel guests have a discount available at two local golf clubs: Golf Pollença and Alcanada Golf Club, if they wish to play. Golf clubs and caddies can also be hired from the hotel.

Who It’s Best For

Son Brull is most suitable for couples searching for a romantic getaway, and especially those couples into fitness, health and wellbeing.

While the hotel is not strictly for adults, children must be aged at least 12 before they can use the main pool, so if you do want to visit with a young family, you will need to book one of the private villas.

Sustainability

Son Brull is hugely committed to sustainability efforts through many on-site initiatives. So much so, they have previously earned a Gold Distinction Award for their sustainability efforts.

The hotel has its own farm as well as olive groves, vineyards and orchards, all of which are a part of the farm-to-table produce that they serve in the hotel’s restaurants, thus reducing their carbon footprint.

Their produce is also organic and the hotel supports local eco-friendly programmes, such as a seed-sharing scheme, which helps to preserve local trees such as fig and lemon across Mallorca.

Finally, the spa uses only natural products, which are free from mineral oils and synthetic preservatives, all of which contribute to healthier skin and are much better for the environment.

Unique Selling Point

Built inside a former monastery, Son Brull is one of the most unique hotels in Mallorca.

Aside from its setting, it has the advantage of being close to the beach and the countryside, and through its sustainability efforts, it means that the hotel and surrounding area will be able to be visited and enjoyed by guests for years to come.

Through supporting local initiatives to help the surrounding ecosystem, and with a focus on organic produce in the restaurant, the hotel provides a safe and healthy space, perfect for a romantic getaway.

And with plenty to do onsite, from cycling to relaxing in the spa, there is never a dull moment when you’re staying at Son Brull.
