Curious to know which city has the best nightlife in the world? From Amsterdam to Sydney, our list features cities that offer something unique regarding after-dark activities. From Amsterdam’s Red Light District to New York’s rooftop bars, here is our guide to which city has the best nightlife in the world.

Which city has the best nightlife in the world?

1. Amsterdam, Netherlands

Amsterdam has a reputation as one of Europe’s best places to party. It has a laid-back atmosphere and a fantastic array of bars and clubs. Some of the best areas in Amsterdam for nightlife include the Red Light District, Amsterdam Central, Rembrandtplein Square, and Leidseplein Square. Clubbers are in for a treat, as most nightclubs have 24-hour licences, which means you can dance all day, and all night. Our favourite Amsterdam clubs are OT301, Radion, and De School.

2. Mexico City, Mexico

Mexico City has some of the best nightlife in Latin America, let alone Mexico. There are three main party neighbourhoods; Condesa, Polanco, and Roma Norte. Most clubs don’t get going until at least 2 am, but you will be greeted with incredible tacos when you do stumble out of the club in the morning.

3. Berlin, Germany

Berlin is one of the best nightlife cities in the world. The nightlife here is diverse, exciting, and surprising, from progressive, rebellious spots to traditional Bavarian bars and pulsating warehouse nightclubs. Some popular nightlife areas include The Mitte district, Prenzlauer Berg, and Kreuzberg. One of our favourite party places is Wrangelstrasse, right by the River Spree. It has many bars, clubs, and pubs lining the waterfront.

4. Bangkok, Thailand

Busy, chaotic, and crowded, Bangkok is also one of the best places in the world for an unforgettable debaucherous night out. Khao San Road is the beating heart of Bangkok’s nightlife scene, where you’ll find legendary night markets and beer bars. Bangkok’s red light districts of Soi Cowboy, Nana Plaza, and Patpong have fun go-go bars and cabaret shows.

5. Budapest, Hungary

Budapest in Hungry has unique nightlife offerings, including its famous, fun and funky ruin bars. These bars are located in old, ruined buildings once on the verge of destruction. With eclectic decor, clientele and music, as well as cheap drinks, these are one of the most unique nightlife spots in the world. Another unique nightlife experience in Budapest is its legendary spaparties. As the name suggests, these wild and raucous parties are held in the city’s beautiful thermal bathhouses.

6. New York, USA

Regarding nightlife cities, New York is huge, dynamic, unique, and exciting. With over 600 clubs and bars across all five boroughs, you will surely find something that tickles your fancy. Some of our favourite party districts include Soho for a night of bar hopping and Brooklyn for brilliant breweries and craft beer. You’ll find excellent drag shows in the West Village, and the East Village is where you’ll find some of the trendiest nightclubs. One of the most spectacular and unique nightlife offerings in NYC is craft cocktails from a rooftop bar with sweeping views of the breathtaking skyline.

7. Melbourne, Australia

Melbourne’s nightlife is a laid-back affair, and this is what makes it so good. Everything is a bit casual, from the vibe to the dress style. Melbourne has beautiful laneway bars, shady beer gardens, live music venues, and dive bars. Our favourite area for a night out in Melbourne is Fitzroy. For glitzy nightclubs, rooftop bars, and packed dance floors, head to downtown Melbourne.
