With endless beaches, plenty of sunshine and friendly locals, as well as great nightlife, there really are few few places on this planet as exciting as Thailand. Hua Hin is a popular place for backpackers, couples and families. As it’s a short distance (90km) from Bangkok city, it’s ideal for a weekend break. Wondering how to get from Bangkok to Hua Hin? You’ve a few options.

What you choose depends on a number of factors, including your budget and how much time you have to spare. You’ll be in paradise in no time…

How To Get From Bangkok to Hua Hin

1. Catch a Bus

If you’re on a budget, then getting the bus can be a good option to save money. Buses leave regularly from both Suvarnabhumi Airport and Sai Tai Mai (Southern Bus Terminal) in the city. The bus from the city is a local bus however, and can take up to six hours.

We suggest using an online booking service and to try avoid buying your ticket in touristy areas in Bangkok, such as Khao San Road, because you could be scammed.

2. Take the Train to Hua Hin

This is a nice option if you want a more scenic route, but keep in mind that the trains often don’t leave on time! The Bangkok-Hua Hin train departs from Hua Lamphong railway station regularly between 8.05am and 10.50pm. You can get budget tickets in third-class, over opt for a sleeper carriage if you’ll be travelling overnight.

The train takes around four hours in total.

3. Travel By Taxi or Private Car

Renting a private car is going to be your best option if you’re looking to enjoy a bit of comfort during your trip from Bangkok to Hua Hin. The trip will take about three hours and while it’s more expensive than other options, you’ll enjoy some luxurious advantages. Not only will your driver pick you up from wherever you are, but they will stop whenever you need to for a break.

4. Book Tickets in Advance on Bookaway

Use Bookaway to reserve your tickets in advance for a number of transport options, including standard buses and VIP buses. Not only can you be assured that you have a guaranteed ticket, you can also make use of the handy filters for finding the best transport option.

Can’t live without air conditioning? Check. Absolutely need to have a toilet on board? You can choose the exact features you need your transport option to have.

5. Take a Minibus

Minivans to Hua Hin leave from Ekkamai, Khao San Road, and Mo Chit New Van Terminal stations, and take between three-four hours. Or, if you’re with a group of friends (about 10-15 people), then renting a minivan for your whole group is a safe, affordable option. Often, they end up being just about the same price as a standard bus ticket, but you’ve got the advantage of only being with people you know.
