2. Moussaka

Though moussaka originated in Turkey, it spread to Greece in the Ottoman times. Over the centuries, Greeks have made moussaka a staple in their cuisine, which is why we think it’s worth it to take a few bites in Athens. Greek moussaka is a hearty casserole layered with eggplant, potatoes and spiced meat. The best spot to enjoy a big plate of moussaka is Maiandros.

3. Amygdalota

Amygdalotas are naturally gluten-free almond cookies and the perfect side-kick to your morning coffee. There are many different versions of the amygalota, but two things are definite, almonds and tastiness. You can find these cookies at several cafes and bakeries, but we think Mitropolitikon does them best.
