1. Mount Rushmore National Memorial

Pro tip: Mount Rushmore faces east, so the best light to take photos of the four U.S. presidents carved into the side of the mountain is in the early morning.

2. Deadwood

A town that was famous for it’s gold rush history and which remains as picturesque as ever today.

3. Rapid City Art Alley

This unique back alley has buildings covered in vividly coloured graffiti-style murals which are constantly changing and which make the perfect Instagram backdrops.

4. Falls Park

Falls Park is located north of downtown Sioux Falls. The park covers 123 acres with gallons of water that drop 100 feet over the course of the Falls each second. The visitor observation deck is the best spot for a great photo.

5. South Dakota Sunflowers

The state produces a large chunk of the sunflowers in the USA and when they are in full bloom there are very few prettier sights.

6. Badlands National Park

Its dramatic landscapes feature rock formations, steep canyons and towering spires. Drive the Badlands Loop Road (Highway 240) to cruise past scenic lookouts.

7. Spearfish Canyon

The most wonderful visual reward after hiking up here. The canyon looks as good during the depths of winter when frozen over as it does in the summer.
