The 7 Best Burmese Dishes You Have To Try

Here are the Best Burmese Dishes You Have To Try

The food in Myanmar has been shaped by many of its neighbouring countries, although years of isolation and a diverse ethnic make up means that cuisine here is totally unique. Rather than a sweet or spicy taste like in Thailand or India, the flavours here are strong and pungent, with a distinct sour and savoury taste in most Burmese dishes.

Rice is a staple food, with meals served with lots of dipping sauces and pastes; the most popular condiments are pickled mango or a fermented fish paste. One of the most famous Burmese foods is lephet – fermented tea leaves, which are delicious in salads.

While you’ll have the most authentic experience of this cuisine in Myanmar itself, there’s still plenty of dishes you can make at home that will bring the flavours to you instead.

We’re sharing some of the best classic Burmese dishes. These recipes aren’t just any recipes either, as they have been created by the world’s top food bloggers. The best of the best. Make sure check out the other great dishes on their sites too.
