Influencer Couple Face Backlash After Asking Followers To Fund Their €10,000 Trip

An Instagram travel couple (Another Beautiful Day) are facing backlash from people around the world after they posted a GoFundMe to ask their followers – and strangers – to pay for their next trip.

Catalin Onc and Elena Engelhardt are asking for €10,000 to pay for a tandem bicycle trip from Germany to Africa.

And no, they don’t mention where exactly in Africa they want to cycle to – just “Africa”.

They have so far raised €657 out of their €10,000 goal

The couple say they want to “show the beauty of this planet and it’s inhabitants, but also the ugliness.” The GoFundMe post also says they want to “take you all on this huge adventure.”

As for what the money will go towards? “The bike and gear, food and accommodation.” The money will also go towards “preparation” ahead of the trip. The couple have travelled all over the world. Recent posts on their Instagram show posed photos in Nepal and Bali.

People are now flooding the couple’s Another Beautiful Day account with criticism

Naturally, people don’t quite understand why the couple can’t save up and pay for the trip themselves. In a now-deleted post on Facebook, they write that “when you have the impact we do on others life, getting a job is not an option.”

“We could model and make fast money, but we don’t want to advertise consumerism. A normal job at this point would be detrimental,” it continues.

According to the post, they say that Catalin’s mom helps to fund their other trips.

Comments on the couple’s post include “The ugliness you’re showing the world is your narcissism”. Another says “”I want to donate to help your poor mother go on vacation instead of you two douchebags.”

The couple posted a follow-up post after the backlash to say they will be taking a break from social media for a short time

“And with this post, I will step away from social media for a little while…. I am going on a walk. I will walk as long as I possibly can. No sleep, No social media, No distractions….”

The response from the public to that? “Try walking to a job interview.”
