Bristol is a great city – full of things to do, places to see and, best of all, food to eat. But what about when you want to venture a little further to get yourself a nice meal out? Well, Wales and the west of England have some of the nicest and cosiest places to eat in the whole region – but where to start? We have collected our favourite places to eat within an hour's drive from Bristol – so Bristolians get yourself ready to find your latest favourite restaurant.
Olive Tree Restaurant, Bath
Cosily situated in the basement of a Bath hotel, the Queensberry Hotel, the Olive Tree Restaurant is one of the nation’s favourite West Country places to grab a bite to eat. Their trendy menu, which includes vegan, vegetarian and dairy-free options, is the ideal place to take someone out to a slightly more ‘fancy’ meal. The traditional take on food has so much warm and British heart that we guarantee you will want to come back for not only the flavours but the atmosphere too.
Sotto Sotto, Bath
Fancy a taste of Bath within driving distance from Bristol? Sotto Sotto is the place for you in that case. Just around the corner from the infamous Roman Baths is this perfectly authentic Italian restaurant. The chefs have given a modern twist to excellent dishes, from homemade pasta to a delicious glass of wine from their vast Italian wine menu. The only downside to this restaurant, is you’re going to want to book in advance. It is so popular, so don’t take it to chance by just turning up. Book before you drive to ensure trying out their tasty Italian menu.
Bianchis, Bristol
Originally a popular diner in the heart of Bristol, the Bianchis is a brilliant family-run restaurant that always excels in customer service and catering. The wonderfully-created Italian-inspired menu with a delicious wine list is all served with friendliness and a smile – who wouldn’t want that? We recommend coming here for a catch-up with friends or maybe even a cosy first date.
Scoozi, Clevedon
Scoozi is as cool and stylish as its name suggests. This contemporary and informal dining experience offers a broad menu of some traditional Italian favourites, as well as some modern dishes with a bit of a twist – and most are available as vegetarian options and gluten-free options too. The on-site chefs know exactly how to put together some of the freshest and finest ingredients available to them and they cook them over a wood-stone oven for that incredibly authentic Italian taste. This is the perfect spot for couples, families or even business meals. We know this will be a new favourite in no time and is well worth the journey.
Ridgeway Bistro Bar, Newport
A favourite among locals in Newport is the Ridgeway Bistro Bar. This restaurant has become very popular in the last few years and has come under new management and been fully refurbished to become a welcoming and friendly bistro. Their relatively new menu offers a range of classical foods, as well as some more exotic options with flavourful twists. We love this restaurant and know you will too and it is well worth the drive from Bristol.
Steak on Six, Newport
The Steak on Six is an award-winning restaurant that specialises in, you guessed it: steaks. Diners are offered stunning views of the Coldra Woods that are situated nearby and the menu offers local steaks that were all bred in the British Isles – perfect for those meat fanatics. With cured meats also available, such as Welsh Smoked and Cured Salmon – your taste buds are really in for a treat at this Newport steakhouse.
