Valencia is many things. It’s home to famous Las Fallas, a honeypot of Medieval history, glistening Mediterranean beaches and the perfect climate. It’s also the birthplace of world-famous Spanish delight, paella. Today a great Paella can be found all over Spain, but most agree Valencia is the go-to for the most authentic one. So, here’s our top picks of the very best paella in Valencia…
Best Places For Paella In Valencia
1. Casa Carmela
Casa Carmela is a place that comes with a lot of tradition and history. They opened up back in 1922 by Jose Belenguer and nearly 100 years later has been passed down four generations. His great-grandson Toni Novo considers taking over the family business as his lifework and takes great pride in serving some of the best paella in Valencia.
2. El Raco de la Paella
Tucked away in Valencia’s Campanar neighbourhood is El Raco de la Paella. It’s off the beaten path in a residential area and boasts only ten tables giving it a more authentic Valencian atmosphere. Their paella de pollo is a must-try. Sure, seafood is a classic, but why not try something different?
3. Pasqualet
Pasqualet is in the tiny village of El Palmar just south of Valencia and is well worth the quick trip! They are famous for their clochinas (mussels) and homy atmosphere. The incredible food at Pasqualet is no longer a secret, so be sure to book a table in advance.
4. La Pepica
La Pepica has been wowing patrons with their stunning Mediterranean views and drool-worthy paellas since 1898. It’s so good in fact, that Spanish painter Joaquin Sorolla and American novelist Hemmingway ate here. We recommend the seafood paella and of course, outdoor seating right on the beach.
5. Restaurante Levante
In typical Spanish fashion, Restaurante Levante does not abide by standard business hours. Only open daily from 1.30 pm – 4pm, reservations are a must, but will be completely worth it. We recommend going the whole nine yards with wine, hot and cold tapas, paella and dessert.
It’s easily one of the top places for a delicious paella in Valencia.
6. La Riua
Quirky, affordable, cosy and authentic are a few words to describe La Riua. Famous for their eel dishes, seafood paella and charming atmosphere, this typical Spanish restaurant should be at the top of any foodies list. Along with their famous seafood paella, the arroz negro is great, too!
7. Casa Roberto
This paella hotspot is smack dab in the middle of the La Gran Via district. Casa Roberto is perfect after a day of exploring surrounding Ciutat Vella and Eixample. They’re known for their Paella Valenciana which is traditional paella made with chicken, rabbit, sausage and escargot. Order some of their house red and enjoy. Ole!
