1. What’s so special about Texas Capitol?

Widely recognised as one of the nation’s most distinguished state capitols. It was officially completed on December 8, 1888, after six years and ten months of construction. The Texas Capitol stands just under 15 feet taller than the nation’s Capitol in Washington D.C., making it the second tallest capitol in the nation – tallest being the Louisiana State Capitol.

2. How do I get there?

Parking is available at the Capitol Visitors Parking Garage located at 1201 San Jacinto between Trinity and San Jacinto Streets. It is free for the first 2 hours and $1.00 for every 30 minutes thereafter, with a maximum charge of $8.00 per day.

3. How much will it cost?

Capitol Tours are free! All tours leave from inside the South Foyer outside the tour guides office in the Capitol. Tours generally depart every 30 to 45 minutes.

Tours on average take 30 minutes.

  1. Capitol Grounds – also open at night time the statues and the Capitol are well lit which provide a perfect backdrop.

  1. It’s not all about the building itself, be sure to explore 22 acres of the Capitol grounds.
  2. Stop by Visitor’s Center and check out their exhibitions.
  3. If you want to enjoy the grounds, pack a picnic there are plenty of places to sit down and enjoy the views!
