1. What’s so special about Hamilton Pool?

This natural pool was created when the dome of an underground river collapsed due to erosion thousands of years ago.

The area consists of 232 acres, this protected natural habitat features a jade green pool into which a 50-foot waterfall flows with water temperatures reaching 50 degrees Fahrenheit.

Take the line 803 bus from Austin History Center Station to Westgate Transit Center
Take the line 315 bus from Westgate Transit Center
Grab a taxi from Oak Hill Plaza to Hamilton Pool Preserve.

5. When is the best time to go?

Between July and August, when it’s warm enough to swim and free of the bacteria that comes with heavy rain. Arriving at 9am is best when the watering hole opens, as the Preserve often reaches capacity early in the day.
