It follows along a historic railroad route near Lake Mead, which was the main route for construction materials to be brought to build the Hoover Dam in 1931. Red rock f Aztec sandstone is rippled with white and pink stripes, making the whole walk seem surreal. It’s a mostly flat and easy hike that’s accessible to all, while showing off some of the best of Nevada’s unique natural beauty. Rock formations wind and tower, so they almost look like the waves of the sea. You can see where it gets the name. But unlike the sea, it gets extremely hot here, so be sure to bring lots of water with you.

Be sure to carve out lots of time for this hike, you’re going to want to relax in the hot springs for as long as you can. Then, when you want to cool off, you can take a climbing ladder down to the Colorado River for a refreshing dip. You need to take more water than you think you’ll need – the heat can get intense. Bear in mind that because of the extreme heat, this trail isn’t open during the summer months.
4. Sunset Lake Loop
Length: 2 miles
Duration: 40 minutes
While this isn’t one of the most mind-blowing hikes around Las Vegas, it’s great for those looking for a respite from the city. It’s a pretty and serene walk, looping around the lake in Sunset Park. And with lots of benches, it’s great for people watching or simply watching the ducks glide across the calm waters. You’ll spot lots of people fishing too. For those looking for a nice jaunt in nature but still in downtown Las Vegas, this walk is ideal.
5. Bristlecone Trail
Length: 5.7 miles
Duration: 2 hours 40 minutes
The Bristlecone Trail is named after the local tree species, so you know the forestry is going to be filled with lush trees. This is a family-friendly trail that offers wonderful opportunities for wildlife viewing, beautiful scenery, and breathing in that crisp fresh forest air. The path is wide and clearly marked, with some elevation gain. But on the whole, it’s a fairly steady walk. You’ll find paths that lead you through the Spring Mountains, where you’ll have a chance to see the dramatic rocky peaks around the trail.
6. Mary Jane Falls
Length: 3.9 miles
Duration: 2 hours 20 minutes
This walk is slightly different in comparison to the other walks in Las Vegas on this list. It’s the only one that offers a waterfall, and it’s a beautiful one at that. It’s a challenging hike, with high elevation gain, but to reach the 300 ft waterfall at the end is a worthy reward. And the walk itself is worth the incline, passing through forest areas, unique rock formations, and treating you to stunning mountain views.
