Los Angeles is the second largest city in the United States of America. So, as you can imagine, there is a whopper amount of after-dark activities and nightlife districts across the sprawling metropolis. The city has many bars, pubs, nightclubs, comedy clubs, live music venues, and drag and cabaret shows. Curious to know where is the best nightlife in Los Angeles? Here are some of our favourite places to party in the City of Angels.
1. Downtown LA
Unlike many other areas of the city, Downtown LA has good public transport options, making getting from venue to venue cheap and easy. No need for expensive taxi cabs or ride shares. Downtown LA has fun, funky dive bars, swanky rooftop bars, and pulsating nightclubs. There is something for everyone, regardless of your partying style.
2. West Hollywood
West Hollywood, or WeHo, is the epicentre of the city’s LGBTQ+ scene and one of the most epic places for nightlife in Los Angeles. Within its energetic, quirky, buzzing bars, clubs, and lounges, there is a real warm, welcoming, fun and friendly vibe. A great night out is guaranteed in West Hollywood, whether you want to catch an up-and-coming band at a live music venue, splurge in a fancy club, see a drag show or enjoy some cabaret.
3. Hermosa Beach
Hermosa Beach has a laid-back surfer vibe, but you’ll find many different styles of places, from chilled surfer bars to luxe lounges and old-school clubs. One of the most popular spots for nightlife is in and around the pier. Baja Sharkeez is always hopping and a staple of the nightlife scene. Next door, you’ll find Patrick Malloy’s Irish pub for dancing, drinking and cavorting. For live music, check out The Lighthouse and Sainte Rock.
4. Koreatown
Koreatown has a nightlife scene that is exciting, eclectic, and fun. You’ll find lots of speakeasies here alongside pulsating dance clubs where you can party till the small morning hours. After a few drinks, visiting one of the many karaoke bars is always a good idea before ending your night with delicious food in one of the many 24-hour restaurants and diners.
5. Venice Beach
Venice Beach is a vibrant neon-lit hotspot famous for its late-night partying. A super way to get the night started in Venice Beach is to watch the fiery sunset from the pier or a bar terrace with a cold beer or craft cocktail. When the sun sets, a very popular hotspot for a party is The Brig. This Venice Beach institution opened in the 1950s, and today it is a cool venue with mid-century modern aesthetics where you can enjoy live music, play billiards, and eat from the food trucks.
6. Santa Monica
The beautiful beach town of Santa Monica is a great place if you love al fresco nights out. The nightlife scene here makes the most of the warm weather with lots of lovely outdoor spaces most adorned with twinkling fairy lights and lush foliage. A particularly cool nightlife offering here are the rooftop terraces and sidewalk patios. Quite often, up-and-coming bands provide the soundtrack to a great night out.
7. Silver Lake and Echo Park
Silver Lake and Echo Park are two thriving neighbourhoods in close proximity to each other. Both areas have lots of live music venues, hipster spots, late-night food trucks, and artsy breweries. Echo Park is a great place for nightlife, especially if you love a good wine bar. Sunset Boulevard is the place to go for a wide selection of bars, pubs, restaurants, and legendary live music venues. Craft beer is big in both neighbourhoods, so if you’re an ale connoisseur, you’ll love it around here.
