North America Food

Veganism is one of the fastest growing lifestyle choices of the moment, yet there’s still an idea that vegan food can be bland and tasteless. Well, that’s just not true. Plant produce is an exciting and delicious way to eat and it’s healthy AF. These amazing vegan restaurants in New York prove just that.

From authentic Ethiopian sharing dishes to high-end eateries, NYC is one city that caters to all tastes. Vegans, veggies and everything in between can happily eat their heart out here…

Best vegan restaurants in New York

1. Bunna Cafe

Bunna Cafe in Brooklyn is the best place in to go to for Ethiopian vegan delights, to share with a group of friends who love food just as much as you do. Authentic (and vibrant!) piles of delicious food are served on top of sourdough flatbread to scoop it up.

2. Blossom

One of New York’s top vegan restaurants, Blossom has two locations in the city; one in a historic Chelsea townhouse. Their fresh organic ingredients come from local farms and all of the dishes are completely animal free.

3. Narcissa

Even though Narcissa has meat on its menu, it earns its place with its keenly sourced local ingredients from the restaurant’s own Upstate farm. A sharp farm-to-table ethos means the menu is always exciting and staff will happily help with vegan options.

4. Tonchin New York

Tonchin made a culture of Tokyo Tonkotsu ramen and it fast became one of the most famous ramen restaurants in Tokyo. It’s since opened up in NYC and is a haven for homemade ramen fans. While the main menu isn’t vegan, they have an amazing vegan ramen dish that makes this a must-visit.

The Miso Ginger ramen has homemade vegan noodles, vegan tonchin miso, soy meat, menma, cabbage, bean sprouts and shredded red pepper.

5. Nix

Nix is a restaurant in Greenwich Village from Michelin-starred chef John Fraser and James Truman that cooks up dishes that are seasonal, shareable and highly flavourful. The food here is almost too beautiful to eat – almost. Feast on shiitake “cacio e pepe” with haricots verts and creamy polenta or griddled squash, bitter greens, macadamia nuts & cherries.

6. Veggie Castle II

For a vegan feast fit for a king, Veggie Castle II in Richmond Hill is perfect for the meat and dairy-free crowd. It’s a Caribbean food joint, with mock salt fried fish and soy meat, as well as collards and mac ‘n cheese. It’s one of the best vegan restaurants in New York yet is nicely tucked away from the masses.

7. Screamer’s Pizzeria

You can’t be in New York and not have a slice of pizza. Screamer’s Pizzeria has vegans sorted with their all-vegan pizzas that are big on flavour. Feast on Sausage & Mushroom (tomato sauce, housemade seitan sausage, cremini mushrooms and vegan cheese) or the Old School (broccolini, almond ricotta and caramelised onions). Or, y’know, make up your own.
