Texas’ craft beer scene has been on the up and up. Only a handful of years ago in 2005, Texas boasted less than 50 breweries and today that number has jumped to more than 300. Whether you’re a local or are visiting, you’ll have plenty to choose from if you’re looking for some good beer and good times. That’s why we narrowed it down to the seven best breweries to visit in Texas to make your trip planning a smidge easier. Happy drinking!

7 of the Best Breweries to Visit in Texas

1. Austin Beer Garden Brewing Co. – Austin

It’s no secret that Austin is widely considered as the cultural, culinary and music capital of the state so it’s no surprise that it’s home to some of the best breweries, too. This warehouse style beer garden is famous for their unique variety of microbrews and traditional pub bites to match. Be sure to stop by for some live music and don’t leave without a few pints of the famous helles Hell Yes.

2. Rahr & Sons – Fort Worth

Since their debut in 2004, Rahr & Sons has become a staple in the Texas beer scene. And that of course extends to their home base brewery in Fort Worth. Plan a Wednesday around their mid-week tastings that are amped up with some classic southwest fare courtesy of Smokin’ Cactus.

3. Southern Star Brewing – Conroe

Seasonal craft beers are the name of the game at this Conroe fave. Head to their brewery where you’ll find 13 acres of beer-lovin’ paradise complete with a sprawling taproom, live music events, traditional beer garden and even a disc golf course. Their brewery tours are on Saturdays and make for a perfect afternoon activity followed by music, games and good times.

4. Deep Ellum Brewing Company – Dallas

Set in Dallas’ coolest neighbourhood, Deep Ellum Brewing Company is the place for brew heads in D-Town. Whether you visit for the fun events, quirky atmosphere, stellar food trucks or just for some delicious brews, you’re in for a treat. You can’t go wrong with a pint of everyone’s favourite, the Dallas Blonde. But be sure to also try their lesser known brews like the Neato Bandito Mexican lager.

5. Revolver Brewing – Granbury

This cosy craft brewery is the perfect spot to spend an afternoon sipping on beer and relaxing. Famous for their Blood & Honey Texas ale and Over Yonder black lager, you’ll have quite a bit to choose from. Be sure to ask if they’ve got any seasonal or speciality beers out such as their Peach Haze IPA or rarewood barrel-aged beers.

6. Real Ale Brewing Company – Blanco

Real Ale Brewing Co. has been a staple in Texas’ beer scene since 1996 with no plans of stopping soon. In their own words, “we focus on making the best beer and not the most beer.” It’s their commitment to quality over quantity that makes them one of the best. Be sure to carve out some time to relax in their beer garden with a few sips.

7. Ranger Creek Brewing and Distilling – San Antonio

Nobody does microbrews and craft whiskies like San Antonio’s Ranger Creek Brewing and Distilling. This industrial so-called brewstillery has made a name for itself as one of the best breweries in the state for its excellent beer variety. Be sure to try their Wee Heavy brew from their Texas Bourbon Barrel series.
