Whether you’re more of a beach bum, party-goer, history buff or nature lover, the Lone Star State has it all and then some. Here are our picks for the best spring break destinations in Texas.

7 of the Best Spring Break Destinations in Texas

1. South Padre Island

Nothing says spring break like spending your days lounging on the beach listening to the peaceful waves and spending your evenings out on the town. And at South Padre Island that’s exactly what you’ll get. The island is known for its calm waters which make for perfect afternoons of snorkelling, swimming or simply napping on the beach with a drink in hand. While the nature shines, the nightlife is just as impressive with everything from Vegas-style entertainment to Latin dance halls.

3. Austin

It’s no secret that Austin is the party capital of Texas. It’s famous for its vibrant nightlife, stellar food scene and all around party atmosphere. After all, it’s not coined the Live Music Capital of the World for nothing. Whether you’d prefer to spend your days exploring the city via its many hiking trails, pull a boat out on Lake Travis or day trip to the surrounding towns, there’s plenty to keep you and your friends occupied. Did we mention it’s also home to some of the best BBQ in the state?

4. Lake Texoma

If a laid back spring break surrounded by pristine nature is what you’re after, consider Lake Texoma. Located on the Texas-Oklahoma border spread across some 89,000 acres, you’ll find a lake paradise known as Lake Texoma. At just an hour north of Dallas, it’s easy to access while still feeling like it’s in a world of its own. Take to the shores for fishing or have a picnic along the banks; but whatever you do, don’t miss out on the many hiking trails that surround the area.

5. Corpus Christi

Corpus Christi is a place that you come for the beach but stay for the attractions. Home to some of Texas’ most pristine stretches of coast, it’s an ideal destination for some quality r&r on the beach. However, there are also loads of local attractions such as the Texas State Aquarium, South Texas Botanical Gardens and the USS Lexington. This makes it a perfect vacay spot for those who like a healthy mix of relaxing and exploring.

6. San Antonio

Say it with us, unbelievable-tex-mex food. While San Antonio may not be the first place that comes to mind for a Texas spring break getaway, this cosy city will surprise you. Famous for its charming riverwalk dotted with countless cantinas and world class eateries, it’s the perfect spot for foodies. Not only that, but San Antonio boasts a great variety of recreational activities nearby in the Government Canyon State Natural Area; and has loads of cultural sites in the city – cough, cough, the Alamo.
