1. Bainbridge Island
Connected to Seattle by ferry, this small town boasts picturesque views of the Cascade Mountain Range, the Olympic Peninsula, and Mount Rainier.
Make sure to check out their artisan wineries, organic distillery, and a brewery.
2. Mount Rainier National Park
The park itself covers over 236,000 acres, home to an active volcano, and more glaciers than any other peak (14,410 feet) in the US.
There are a number of hiking trails at many levels and for experienced climbers, there are many climbing spots. Don’t worry if you forgot to pack a picnic – the park also has a number of dining options.
3. Darrington
Less than an hour and a half away from Seattle city lies the stunning town of Darrington, located in Snohomish County.
There are a number of festivals and community events held throughout the year. This day trip can be taken year-round; summer activities include hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, and bird watching, while the winter brings opportunities to snowmobile and find the perfect Christmas tree!
4. Leavenworth
Found nestled away in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains, you’ll feel as if you’ve been transported to a small town in Bavaria.
The drive from Seattle to Leavenworth follows the Skykomish River, with breathtaking views of Bridal Veil Falls and on to Deception Falls before arriving at this Germanic alpine town.

5. San Juan Island
You can take the ferry directly from Seattle to reach San Juan Island’s Friday Harbour. The early morning ferry is recommended so you can take full advantage of the whole day.

6. Portland
This buzzing, diverse, and modern city is a great day trip from Seattle. Known for its amazing coffee shops, coffee lovers will have a field day!
Some points of interest are; Pioneer Square, Pittock Mansion, and the Portland International Rose Garden. If you’re lucky enough to visit the city on a clear day you can see Mount St Helens before the sunsets. A truly unmissable experience.
7. Snoqualmie Falls
Standing an astounding 270 ft high, the Snoqualmie Falls is one of the most impressive waterfalls in North America.
Admission to the two-acre park is free, and the park is home to a short hiking trail. The understated Salish Lodge & Spa is a must visit during a day trip from Seattle.
