Lastly, Have Fun!

We know. This holiday season is different and in many ways, just plain strange. Nonetheless, families and loved ones can still improvise to enjoy a safe Christmas and make the best of this holiday season. After all, it’s the “most wonderful time of the year.”

What Does a 2020 Christmas Look Like, Anyway?

The nonstop changes to regulations and evolution of the virus has left a lot of Americans wondering just how different this Christmas will be from the last. One thing’s for sure – online shopping is slated to become more popular than ever before.

Santa will still be in malls, but it will be…different. Brookfield Properties, who is the second-largest mall operator in the country, has recently revealed how they plan to do Santa visits this year. The shopping centre mogul says it will have Santa present in its mall but will be providing a “touchless experience.” Santa’s big snowy beard will be covered with a mask, and children will have the opportunity to sit on wrapped gifts at an appropriate distance.

Mall operator Preit which owns approximately 20 malls on the East Coast says it will be placing Santa behind plexiglass. In lieu of photos, children will be given the option to record their…wait for it…zoom call. That’s right – kiddos can now zoom chat with Santa and save it for later.

Studies have also shown some pretty interesting numbers in terms of what Americans plan to do for the holidays this year. Moning Consult concluded that around 53% plan to have holiday gatherings as usual despite the virus. Alternatively, research done by Travelocity revealed that a whopping 60% of Americans don’t plan on visiting family for this years holidays. However, they still plan on travelling, just not to grandma and grandpas. The study revealed that one in four families plan on taking a vacation before the end of the year. Mostly due to the fact that summer vacations were cancelled and prolonged visits with elderly relatively could be risky. Whatever the reason, it gives at least a glimmer of hope to the countries struggling hospitality industry.

A Changing Industry

It’s no secret that the virus has led to unprecedented losses in the travel realm. Primarily with accommodation and airfare. Struggling to keep up, both industries have made massive cuts to their prices to stay afloat. Recently the pandemic has spawned once in a lifetime airfare deals, and larger chains like Wyndham are offering resort bubble style accommodation over the holidays. It’s an exceptional time indeed for the holidays and a season that will definitely be remembered. Whether you plan on booking a staycation, hitting the road or visiting family, plenty of fun will still be had.
