Heading to New Orleans without a game plan ain’t a good idea. There’s SO much to do and if you don’t plan ahead, you’ll blink, your trip will be over and you won’t have seen or done half of what you wanted to. Fortunately for you, we’ve out together a list of the seven top things to do when in New Orleans.

The Crescent City awaits you…

These are the 7 things you MUST do in New Orleans

1. Explore the Garden District

NOLA’s Garden District is what dreams are made of. Grand historic mansions with lavish and lush garden line the streets. Stroll around and take in the otherworldly surroundings.

The best part about this New Orleans must do? It’s free! Like all the best things in life.

2. Preservation Hall

There’s no question about it. If you’re in New Orleans, you’re going to this iconic music venue. Preservation Hall dates back to 1961 and hosts a variety of well-known and local jazz musicians that will blow you away.

We recommend booking ahead online to guarantee entry and arriving 30 minutes before to get a good spot as it’s first come, first seated and the floors are hard AF.

3. Eat Beignets at Café Du Monde

If we could marry one food, it would be beignets. Glorious, glorious beignets.

These sugary, fluffy, pillows of heaven are a saving grace in the middle of a busy day exploring NOLA. Add a delicious, classic chicory coffee to the mix for the perfect pick-me-up.

4. Booze on Bourbon Street

Ahhhh Bourbon Street, you either love it or you hate it but boozing (responsibly, of course) on this iconic street is so much fun. Possibly too much fun.

Noisy. Raucous. Nocturnal. There are two to-go cocktails to watch out for: the Hand Grenade and the Hurricane. They’ll really get the party started. What happens on Bourbon Street stays on Bourbon Street…

5. Explore the French Quarter

When it comes to the 7 things you must do in New Orleans, the French Quarter has gotta be one. There’s no avoiding it.

Often called the Crown Jewel of New Orleans, step back in time in the city’s historic heart and embrace its beauty complete. We’re talkin’ colorful buildings, beautiful cast-iron work, jazz clubs and Cajun eateries. Be sure to stop by the French market and Jackson Square.

6. Swamp Tour

There are a bunch of different ways you can explore NOLA’s swamps and bayous – by kayak or canoe, by airboat or on a bigger group boat tour. Depending on your budget, and how you fare on water, you can choose from a variety of tour providers to find one best suited to you. Watch out for the ‘gators!

7. Crawfish Boil

When it come to things you can’t miss in NOLA, a crawfish bowl is definitely up there. Half meal, half social occasion and the perfect amount of spice ‘n’ heat.

If you don’t like working for your food, then this one maybe ain’t for you. But you’ll reap the delicious rewards after ripping off heads and cracking open shells.

We recommend Zimmer’s, Castnets, Bevi and Cosimo’s for the absolute best crawfish boils in New Orleans.
