20th. Sofra – Toowoomba City, QLD
With one foot in Asia and the other in Europe, Turkey is a rich melting pot of cuisine, and Sofra showcases this perfectly. It’s a beautiful restaurant that does some of the best kebabs in Australia. Take your pick from spicy lamb mince, king prawns, juicy beef or their house speciality with succulent slices of doner kebab, layered on turkish bread topped with home-made tomato concasse and yoghurt.

Efendy is located in a stunning restored Victorian mansion, with food that’s just as impressive. Chef Sivrioglu spent the first 25 years of his life in Turkey before coming to Oz, so the food here is a cool mix of traditional and urban. The Ali Nazik kebab is a real highlight: lamb short fillet with smoked eggplant, garlic yogurt, and sweet peppers.

Plus, it’s open from the early hours until midnight, so you can stop by whenever that kebab craving hits.
