The basic requirements are: meeting the minimum age requirement, presenting a valid driver’s license, presenting a major credit card in your name (in most states) and paying the agreed deposit.

This depends. Some car hire agencies will rent cars to anyone aged 21 or over with a valid license, the minimum age is 17 in some states, but you may have a surcharge applied if you’re under 25.

The grace period can vary with different rental agencies but it’s often around 30 minutes. If you return your car more than two hours late, an additional fee may be applied.

One way car hire allows you to rent a vehicle from one location and drop it off in another. If you’re taking a two-center holiday and want to drive to your next city rather than fly, you might prefer this.
