Geography

Idaho Falls is a city in the U.S. state of Idaho. It is the county seat of Bonneville County.

Climate

Idaho Falls experiences a humid continental climate with warm and mostly clear summers; and freezing and partly cloudy winters. Precipitation is relatively low. Over the course of the year temperature rarely falls below -3°F or rises above 94°F.

Culture

Originally the area was inhabited by Shoshone-Bannock and Northern Paiute First Nations. It was known as the Eagle Rock Settlement at Taylor’s Ferry. The town was renamed in 1890 and developed first as a railroad division and later as a center of irrigated farming. Today, its main economy is generated from high-tech industry, agriculture, livestock, nuclear testing, and tourism.

Go for a scenic stroll through a green corridor

The mesmerizing Snake River is a defining landmark of the Idaho Falls cityscape. Covering 5 miles, it includes a pedestrian corridor, the Idaho Falls Greenbelt, and a River Walk. You can stroll, jog or cycle along the extensively landscaped riverside and admire the breathtaking scenery, amaze at the several art installations along the promenade, and take your kids to play at the string of lovely waterfront parks where you can also sit around for a picnic. The Snake River Greenbelt is a delight for photographers as it changes hues with the passing seasons.

Take the kids to the zoo or visit a museum

In the southwestern corner of Tautphaus Park lies Idaho Falls Zoo, which hosts 300 animals from around 130 species. It is hailed as the ‘Best Little Zoo in the West’ and lives up to its name by taking part in conservation measures for more than 40 endangered species. The animals on exhibit include lions, lemurs, snow leopards, wallabies, penguins, kookaburras, sloth bears, golden eagles, and otters, among others. There is also a Children’s Zoo where kids can pet and feed domesticated animals.

Indulge in interactive art

The Art Museum of Eastern Idaho can be accessed through the Idaho Falls River Walk, and it features 5 galleries and a children’s interactive art area. Events and classes like portrait painting, watercolor classes, and poetry slams encourage children to express their artistic side.
