History of Arizona
Arizona was the last of the 48 coterminous states to be admitted to the Union, on 14th February 1912 (its popular nickname stems from this romantic date). The state was originally owned by Spain and then Mexico, but it was ceded to the USA in 1848. Its first economic boom occurred shortly thereafter thanks to the discovery of copper and this remained a major industry until its decline a century later.
