Welcome to Jamaica, where the sun shines all day, the sea is warm, reggae flows through the streets, and everything is irie. Life moves slowly here, there’s no rush, and why should there be? You’ll want to savour every moment here for as long as you can. At Enjoy Travel, we find affordable accommodation to help you realise your Caribbean island dreams.

How to Find the Best Hotel Deals in Jamaica

Avoid touristy locations: Negril is Jamaica’s luxurious getaway destination, and Montego Bay has long been popular with visitors, but that doesn’t mean that budget travellers should avoid the areas entirely. Instead, we recommend steering clear of areas with a high concentration of cruise ships or all-inclusive hotels. For example, Montego’s Bay public beach is much more laidback and affordable than the hotels around Doctor’s Bay.

Book a guesthouse or independent hotel: While all-inclusive hotels seem like a way to save money on food and drink, Jamaica is an affordable country. You can find excellent deals on guesthouses or independent hotels, such as the Gem on the Hill in Ocho Rios.

Avoid tourist season: January and February are popular times to visit Jamaica when most of us are desperate to escape the winter. These months also coincide with Jamaica’s dry season, which is December to April. Prices increase considerably during this time. The months between July and September are the cheapest times to visit. However, bear in mind that this is during the rainy season.

Must-See Sights in Jamaica

Jamaica is full of incredible sights to explore. However, here are three must-see sights that are not to be missed.

Dunn’s River Falls: The famous Dunn’s River Falls offers adventure and natural beauty. You can climb up the falls, swing from rope swings, and jump into natural pools.

Rick’s Cafe: Located in Negril, Rick’s Cafe is a famous and beloved bar, with cold drinks and live music. There are various cliff jumping points too (we don’t recommend this after a couple of drinks), ranging from 10 to 35 ft.

Bob Marley Museum: Learn more about the life and music of reggae legend Bob Marley. Jamaicans are incredibly proud of Bob Marley, so learning more about this local (and international) legend is a great way to connect with the locals.

As well as enjoying Jamaica’s incredible natural scenery and history, we highly recommend visiting local restaurants. Food is an integral part of Jamaican culture, and taking a cooking class, visiting a family-run restaurant, or taking a food tour simultaneously supports the local culture and introduces you to new and exciting foods and flavours.

Discover Jamaica’s Surprises and Secrets

Add these lesser-known spots to your Jamaica itinerary:

Black River: Book a river tour and cruise down the Black River, looking out for crocodiles bobbing up from the dark green waters. Despite the crocodiles, it’s a relaxing and serene trip down the river, passing lush vegetation and spotting wildlife.

Blue Hole Mineral Spring: Thrill-seeking will love the Blue Hole. There are actually two swimming holes, both of which have cliff-jumping rocks, rope swings, and ladders for those who don’t want to jump. As the name suggests, the waters are beautifully blue, and the caves are ethereal.

Mayfield Falls: While most tourists go to Dunn’s River Falls and YS Falls, few visit Mayfield Falls. It’s truly off the beaten path, located on the west side of the island. There are small, cascading waterfalls, surrounded by lush tranquil nature. They might not be as powerful or big as other waterfalls in Jamaica, but being in an uncommercialised environment feels extra special.

Dining Out in Jamaica

Food (along with music) is the heart and soul of Jamaica. The country’s most popular food export, jerk chicken, is loved around the world, but nothing beats eating the real thing in Jamaica. The chicken is typically marinated in jerk spices and then slow-cooked on an open grill for that smokey, spicy, irresistible flavour. Jerk pork and fish are popular, too. Ackee and saltfish are another much-loved, homely dish. Ackee is a savoury fruit, often served with codfish or saltfish. It was imported by Ghanaian slaves. Jamaican cuisine is hearty, meaty, and full of flavour – no dish represents this more than curry goat. Curried meats are popular in Jamaica, so if you don’t fancy trying goat, there are plenty of Caribbean twists on chicken, mutton, and other curries.

Drinks and Nightlife in Jamaica

Jamaica is synonymous with Red Stripe, a crisp lager best-served ice cold and by the beach. Surprisingly, considering the warm weather, stout is another popular beverage. But if you want to embrace the tropical vibes, there’s nothing better than a rum cocktail. Rum is Jamaica’s favourite spirit, and Appleton Estate rum is particularly revered. You can enjoy a rum cocktail on any beach bar or hole-in-the-wall dive bar in Jamaica, but Negril, Montego Bay, and Kingston are the nightlife hotspots.

How to Choose the Perfect Jamaica Hotel for Your Stay

We know that a disappointing hotel can set the tone for your holiday. After spending so long being excited about a trip, turning up at a subpar hotel is disheartening. That’s why we strive to find your perfect hotel, no matter where you’re visiting or your price range. At Enjoy Travel, we have a wide range of Jamaica accommodations, from luxurious all-inclusive resorts to family-run guesthouses. While we do most of the work for you, there are 3 key considerations when finding your perfect Jamaica hotel: budget, location, and amenities.

Budget: Choosing your budget is the most important step to finding your perfect hotel. We recommend nailing down your price range before beginning your search, so you don’t waste time sifting through hotels that are out of your budget. You can use the budget tool on Enjoy Travel to filter results to be within your price range.

Location: Location is instrumental in the enjoyment of your holiday. If you want to enjoy warm sunny days at the pool in an all-inclusive resort, stick to Negril. For culture, music, and food, Kingston is hard to beat.

Amenities: Consider what amenities will complement your holiday style. Going away with the family? Tick ‘family friendly’ under amenities for suitable options. On a business trip? You might want to tick ‘business centre’ or ‘meeting rooms’. Whatever the reason for your stay, use Enjoy Travel’s filters to narrow your search to suitable results.

How to Choose the Cheapest Jamaica Hotel for Your Stay

Most of us are looking to cut back a bit. Unfortunately, holidays often receive the brunt of these cutbacks. However, finding a cheap hotel doesn’t have to mean you compromise on quality, comfort, requirements, or preferences. At Enjoy Travel, we help our customers find the cheapest hotel deals in Jamaica, to ensure you get the much-deserved R&R without spending a fortune. Our price comparison algorithm is constantly searching for the lowest prices, but you can follow these tips to increase your chances of securing a cheap hotel:

Book in advance: Jamaica is a popular destination, particularly during the northern hemisphere’s winter months, so we recommend booking at least 60 days in advance. This is a sure-fire way to secure a better deal on a hotel, as well as secure availability at your chosen hotel.

Be flexible: If the timing of your trip is flexible, then we recommend widening your search. You could find amazing deals if you widen your search by at least a month.

Use travel platforms: The best way to find cheap hotels is by letting a travel comparison site do all the work for you. At Enjoy Travel, our algorithm is constantly finding the best prices out there. We compare prices, amenities, and facilities to ensure you’re getting the best price as well as a hotel that ticks all your boxes.
