How to Find the Best Hotel Deals in the Faroe Islands
Initially, you might think there are only nice hotels in the capital of the Faroe Islands, Tórshavn, but this is not the case. There are numerous other locations throughout the Faroe Islands where you can find the perfect hotel. Whether it’s for that romantic getaway, or the adventure of a lifetime with dear friends, here at Enjoy Travel we can assist you in finding the best hotel deals in the Faroe Islands.
However, while our algorithm does all of the hard work, there are also steps that you can take to ensure that you find the best hotel deals and secure a bargain price at the same time.
Utilise the Outskirts: While it is convenient to stay in the most central part of any major city, we suggest you look for somewhere in the suburbs, or at least on the city’s outskirts to save money. For example, the village of Argir is less than 20 minutes by bus from Tórshavn, or 8 minutes by car – and you’ll find much cheaper accommodation options than in the capital.
Travel Newsletters: Keeping up to date with accommodation prices and information is another perfect way of ensuring that you will receive the best deals available. Sign up for the Enjoy Travel newsletter and email alerts, so you can receive exclusive discounts, promotions, and even new hotel openings.
Travel Platforms: We’re here for a reason – to help you find the best hotel deals, wherever you travel. Let us do all the hard work for you, including price comparison, and take a deep dive into hotel amenities and facilities to ensure that you get the best hotel available to you and your needs.
Discover the Faroe Islands’ Secrets and Surprises
Dining Out in the Faroe Islands
Unsurprisingly, fish and seafood make up a large part of this island nation’s traditional foods. That’s not all that’s on the menu, though, so don’t worry if you’re not a seafood lover! Lamb also makes up a large part of Faroese cuisine and makes for a wonderfully warming meal when cooked up traditional Faroese style – fermented, with plenty of potatoes and root vegetables. For those feeling more adventurous, you’ll likely find Atlantic puffin on the menu, alongside other items such as whale meat and whale blubber.
Drinks and Nightlife in the Faroe Islands
For those who yearn to be out clubbing until the early hours, you might think that the Faroe Islands has nothing in the way of nightlife to offer you. You’d be wrong! There are 3 nightclubs in Tórshavn, the country’s capital, as well as plenty of traditional bars and pubs for those after a Friday night drink or a few relaxing afternoon pints. However, be prepared to find drinks that are different from those that you’re used to at home. Bars in the Faroe Islands have two types of licences: a half licence which means they can only sell wine and beer, and a full licence which means that they can sell all types of alcoholic beverages.
The legal drinking age in the Faroe Islands is the same as in the UK, meaning that patrons must be 18 years or older to purchase and consume alcohol.
Must-See Sights in the Faroe Islands (What Not to Miss!)
The Faroe Islands are packed with natural beauty. Here are just a few bits that should be on your bucket list when you visit this stunning Nordic island nation:
Múlafossur Waterfall: For seekers of sheer natural beauty, the Múlafossur waterfall is simply unmissable. It is easily the most famous tourist attraction in the Faroe Islands, and when you see it in person, it’s easy to understand why. Clear, icy cold water plummets 30 metres from the rocky cliff edges of Vagar Island into the dark waters of the North Atlantic, making for a stunning, inspiring scene. On windy days, it’s even possible to see the water rising into the air. This beautiful attraction is only 11km from Vagar Airport, or it can be reached in just under an hour’s drive from Tórshavn.
Tinganes: For tourists and history buffs alike, Tinganes is another must-visit when exploring the Faroe Islands. Located within Tórshavn, Tinganes is easy to find, as its name translates as “parliament jetty” or “parliament point”. Unsurprisingly, this historic district is home to the Faroese parliament and located on a natural point (or jetty) in Tórshavn. Tinganes is also one of the oldest parliamentary meeting spots in the world, with the first meeting being hosted during the Viking age in the year 825. In addition, most of the houses in Tinganes were constructed between the 16th and 17th centuries, and are still in use today.
Nólsoy Island: We have covered natural geography, history and culture so far, but how about something for nature and wildlife lovers? Then a trip to Nólsoy Island is a must! If you visit this small Faroese island between May and August, then you can see Atlantic puffins nesting, and perhaps even see a few of their chicks if you’re lucky. While the human population is only 230, Nolsoy has one of the world’s largest colonies of European storm petrels (50,000 pairs), as well as holding the status symbol of an Important Bird Area by BirdLife International because of its huge population of actively breeding seabirds. You can take a day trip to Nólsoy via a ferry from Tórshavn.
How to Choose the Best Faroese Hotel For You
Ensuring that your accommodation fits all of your wants and needs is a huge part of the travelling experience. When you’re in a remote part of the world like the Faroe Islands, the last thing you want is to think that you’ve forgotten something important, or the radiator in the bedroom is broken. Here are a few tips from the Enjoy Travel team on how to find the best hotel for your needs:
Budget: Take this into account first. It’s pointless finding the poshest 5-star hotel if you’re only going to be in it for 8 hours a day and make no use of its facilities while you’re out on day trips. Equally, selecting an affordable budget-friendly hotel enables you to put more money towards important experiences while you’re travelling.
Location: As was mentioned earlier, the location of your hotel can determine how much you pay for it. Hotels on the outskirts of cities like Tórshavn will be much cheaper than those within the city centre. Equally, the Faroe Islands are very easy to get around by hire car. So, staying a few minutes from the city can not only save you money but also enable you to see a few more sites that you might have otherwise missed had you stayed in the city centre.
Amenities: Are you travelling with young children? Perhaps it’s a business trip? Maybe a romantic getaway? Whatever your reason for travelling, use Enjoy Travel’s filters to narrow your search down.
How to Choose the Cheapest Faroese Hotel for Your Stay
With only three major airlines operating direct flights to the Faroe Islands from Europe, you can expect to pay a fairly large sum to get there. However, that doesn’t mean that once you’re there everything else is going to be expensive. Here are some tips on finding the cheapest hotels in the Faroe Islands:
Flexibility: Be flexible with your dates. Midweek accommodation is often cheaper than booking a hotel room for a long weekend, so perhaps consider this when booking a Faroese holiday.
Visit Out of Season: June-August is the peak season for tourism in the Faroe Islands. If you’re looking to save some money on hotels, consider visiting outside of these months. The weather can be fairly unpredictable in the Faroe Islands, so really winter is only a few degrees colder than summer.
