Head over to the White Cliffs of Dover

Home to one of England’s most iconic locations, Dover is a beautiful port town that is full of military history. The White Cliffs of Dover is the best place to go to see some of England’s most well-known wildlife – as well seeing some of the oldest surviving buildings in the United Kingdom.

See ‘England in Stone’ in Canterbury

In the heart of Canterbury you will find Canterbury Cathedral. This county treasure is covered in English history, it is no wonder it has been nicknamed ‘England in Stone.’ There is so much within the Cathedral to see, including the crypt and other significant aspects. Just make sure to plan your trip in advance, as the local universities use thi cathedral for graduation – so you don’t want to miss an opportunity to visit.

Visit Mote Park in Maidstone

Mote Park is a 440-acre park in the heart of Kent. This wonderful park surrounds a large lake, where you can hire peddle boats, kayaks and even swim if you have the right membership. Mote Park is a simply glorious place to visit in the summer, with an on-site café and a number of ice cream vans ready and waiting. Although stunning in the summer, Mote Park is also the perfect place for an autumnal walk in the colder months as the trees turn yellow and orange – it is a park to visit all year round.

Hop on a train at the Spa Valley Railway in Tunbridge Wells

Royal Tunbridge Wells is a scenic little town just on the border of Kent and Sussex. If you’re staying here, you will have easy access to London and cities like Brighton, but the town itself is worth a visit. The town has so many quint features, including the Pantiles and the famous Spa Valley Railway. This steam train track is the perfect experience gift for those wanting to see a bit of the Kent countryside. As well as this, you can also have afternoon tea aboard the train, should you want the whole experience to be that bit more special.

Eating Out in Kent

Kent is the perfect county for eating out. There is so much culture, history and, most importantly, local produce that has influenced the dining experience in the Garden of England. No matter what sort of food you’re craving, you will be able to find it – but what are the best restaurants in Kent?

The Firepit – Faversham

This 40-room hotel is surrounded by an extraordinary golf-course and the firepits (funnily enough!) burn brightly all year round. With decorative fires all over the restaurant, you get a sense of cosiness which is only increased when your food arrives. With influences taken from American Midwest foods to Asian cuisines, the food here is just as diverse as the county itself. The Firepit is Faversham’s favourite place to eat, so it is an absolute must if you’re visiting this side of Kent. Oh – and don’t forget that they are excellent at pairing wines with your dishes – so don’t forget to ask them what they recommend when ordering your meal.

The Fordwich Arms – Canterbury

In England’s smallest town, you will find The Fordwich Arms. The pub itself has won its very own Michelin star, and has won awards not only thanks to its food. The pub is situated right on the river, so it makes for a superbly memorable dining experience. The menu sells itself, as from the second you arrive you’re filled with the smell of gorgeous foods – you’ll find it difficult to pick from all the locally sourced dishes.

George and Dragon – Sevenoaks

Known as the ‘wonky pub,’ the George & Dragon is an uneven, mismatched and historic local pub in Sevenoaks. Since the Tudors, people have been coming to the pub to fill their bellies with marvellous food. Sevenoaks is home to Knole Park, so it is no wonder people from all over the United Kingdom come to visit this quint pub for local foods and the best beers on tap.

Transport in Kent

No matter what form of travel you prefer, you aren’t stuck for choice when in Kent. Whether you are a fan of buses, bikes, cars or even just getting around on foot – there are options all over this gorgeous county. With an excellent network of roads, footpaths and trainlines running from one town to the next, you will have more than enough time to explore as much of the county as you so wish thanks to their excellent transport system. South Eastern Rail runs in and around Kent, meaning you can easily get to inner Kent, or to the coastline if you’d rather. Along with this, Arriva buses and Stagecoach also run within the county and can get you anywhere you desire – just make sure you explore as much as you can, you really don’t want to miss anything.
