Culture

Korakesium is the first recorded name for the city. Its name eventually evolved into Kalanoros during the Byzantine period. As a result of Ataturk's 1935 visit, the city was renamed Alanya in his honour. In the 4th century BC, the Greek geographer Skilak made the first written reference to Korakesium.
