Cittadella di Alessandria

This intriguing defensive complex is an absolute must see when visiting Alessandria, as it is undoubtedly the most impressive building in the City. The Cittadella, located on the western banks of the River Tanaro, is a magnificent star fort that has stood strong since the 18th century. Whilst you're strolling the grounds, be sure to admire the star fort outer wall configuration and defensive towers, as well as soaking in the architecture. You're also able to visit inside the fort to check out the military museum that contains over 1500 uniforms, weapons and other memorabilia from the Italian Army.

Ponte Meier

Once you've popped into the Cittadella, use the Ponte Meier bridge to hop over to the opposite side of the river Tanaro. The river Tanaro serves as an important waterway in this region of Italy as it splits the city of Alessandria. Ponte Meier was constructed in the 1990’s and serves as a public road as well as a pedestrian walkway. If you're looking for places to snap some good shots for the gram, then this bridge is a great spot! The architecture & design is truly stunning, with a huge arch that spans the entire length of the bridge and a series of large beams that cross from the road to the walkway.

You'll find this museum in the southern part of the historic old town, located in the old factory.
