Preveza is a city in the Epirus region of northwestern Greece. It is located at the mouth of the Ambracian Gulf and is the capital of the regional unit of Preveza.

Climate in Preveza

Preveza has a temperate climate with warm, dry, and clear summers; and cold, wet, and partly cloudy winters. Over the course of the year, the temperature rarely falls below 2°C or rises above 33°C.


Preveza was possibly founded by the Albanians at the end of the 14th century. It was under Venetian and Ottoman rule for long periods. During the First Balkan War, the city of Preveza was finally taken by the Greek Army and was liberated by the Greeks after the Battle of Nicopolis. Today Preveza is a commercial harbour and tourist hub with a number of museums, cinemas, cafes and taverns.
