Things To Do in Polichni

Explore the incredible Museum of Byzantine Culture

In terms of both Greek architectural heritage and modernism, the Byzantine Museum ranks among Greece's finest recent public architectural projects. 2,900 artefacts are on display in the 11 permanent galleries. All of this material originates from Greece, Macedonia and Thessaloniki in particular, one of the most important Byzantine capitals after Constantinople. The exhibits are divided into two historical periods: Byzantine rule (4th century AD-1453) and the era after Byzantium's collapse to the Turks (1453-19th century). Here you may find information about the creative and intellectual creations as well as the public and private lives, religion and ideology, politics and social structure of the early Christian era, middle Byzantine, late Byzantine, and post-Byzantine periods.

Admire the Arch of Galerius

The city of Thessaloniki apparently constructed the triumphal arch (known today as "Kamara") between 298 and 305 AD to honour Galerius' successful war against the Persians south of the Rotunda. It is one of Thessaloniki's 15 UNESCO World Heritage Site Paleochristian and Byzantine Monuments. A total of eight piers, four in each row, were used to build the completed building. Three arched openings were built between the piers, with the central one being the widest and tallest. In comparison to the outer piers, the four centre piers were bigger and joined by semi-circular arches that supported a dome. They contained marble slabs with relief designs. Three original piers are still standing today (different paving on Egnatia Street indicates the location of two of those piers that were destroyed in the east), two of which feature reliefs depicting scenes from the Roman army's 297 AD victory over Persia and other propaganda images for Galerius' military might and the power of the Tetrarchy.

Eating Out in Polichni

Gia Souvlaki is the place to go if you want to eat the popular Greek meal souvlaki, as well as other specialties. The menus are entirely in Greek, but the friendly hosts will help you navigate them. Furthermore, the meals are both inexpensive and delicious. Bulldogs & The Beast is the place to go for a relaxed and informal drink. The food is wonderful and you'll be seated outdoors, right next to the church. In Polichni, who can resist soutzoukaki? Even better, who doesn't desire quick, fresh, and reasonably priced street food? This is precisely what Kantina Souzi provides. Make a sandwich or a traditional meal with freshly baked bread. The interior is modest but full of character, with images of canteens from all around the globe adorning the walls.

KTEL buses are the best way to travel from Polichni to other large cities since they are both economical and dependable.

Many visitors travelling through Greece choose to hire a vehicle since it provides more comfort, flexibility, and convenience than using public transportation. Greece not only offers a fantastic network of well-maintained highways, but the scenery along the way is also exceptionally attractive, with many of the routes offering breathtaking ocean vistas. If you're going with a big party, renting a minivan may be a good option. You may also book a one-way car hirel, which allows you to pick up your car in one city – say, Athens – and drop it off in another – say, Polichni – before flying out of the country. This would save you the time and inconvenience of having to drive it back to your location.
