Kozani is a city in northern Greece that serves as the capital of the West Macedonia periphery. It is located halfway between Thessaloniki (120 km) and Ioannina (160 km), and is nestled in the Aliakmonas river valley’s northern part.

Admire the Archaeological Museum of Kozani

This early 20th-century Neoclassical style museum has artefacts from the Palaeolithic to the Roman eras, collected from all across the prefecture of Kozani. Everyday goods, magnificent prehistoric and antique jewellery, and an outstanding collection of Roman marble sculptures are all included in this collection. The exhibition of metal artefacts from Iron Age sites in the vicinity, including a 3rd century BC necropolis, is one that has stood the test of time.

Make your way to Servia

The village and surrounding territory were fortified during the reign of the Byzantine emperor Herakleios, who erected it in the 7th century. By the 9th century, it had become one of the most important towns in the area. After passing through Houni's waterfalls, which contain boulders shaped like human figures, a well-maintained route ascends to the ruins above Servia and leads to the site. A single walk will provide you with the opportunity to experience both nature and history. One of Kozani's most stunning vistas is from the 1,372m Servia Bridge, which is home to legends as tall as the bridge itself.

Visit Kozani’s ‘Grand Canyon!’

You are aware that Macedonia has its own 'Grand Canyon,' don't you? Known as the Boucharia Geopark, it is made up of gravel, clay, and pebbles. To achieve the incredible natural phenomenon that exists now, it took 70,000 years of erosion to get its current state. While following the paved road to Mikrovaltos in Kamvouni, you’ll find this incredible canyon on the way to Potamia Ravine.

STRADA Restaurant offers a fantastic ambience, excellent service, and wonderful food and wine. The restaurant provides English menus, making it extremely simple for foreigners to order. Zéphyros is another restaurant to note, serving excellent Greek food. Make a point of trying their feta cheese with sesame and Roka salad. Bentéta is the place to go if you want real, delicious Greek meals at a reasonable price. The grilled veggies and pork served with dried tomatoes and feta cheese are just delectable. Definitely worth it.

Kozani National Airport Filippos (KZI) is the closest major airport. This airport handles domestic flights and is located 6 kilometres from the city of Kozani. Kastoria National Airport (KSO), 74 kilometres from Kozani, Greece, is another notable airport.

Getting Around Kozani

Interurban coaches ("KTEL" buses) are perhaps the most suitable way to travel across Greece. Buses run often from Athens' Kifissias Station to Kozani, as well as from Thessaloniki. Buses also link the city to Veroia, Ioannina, Larissa, Volos, and all other cities and villages in West Macedonia. Trains (OSE) run three times a day between Kozani and Thessaloniki. Minibuses offer public transportation inside the city. There are also taxis available.
