Geography
Sitting on the lower reaches of the Loire river, Tours is nestled between Orléans and the Atlantic coast. It is found in the Indre-et-Loire prefecture and is the largest city in the Centre-Val de Loire region of France.

Culture
Although it originated with Gallic roots, Tours became part of the Roman Empire during the 1st century AD and was named "Caesarodunum" ("hill of Caesar"). In the 4th century, this name changed back to its original Gallic name, Turones, which became "Civitas Turonum" then "Tours".
