>Guide to Beauvais

Beauvais became a countship in the ninth century and power passed to the bishops of Beauvais in the early 11th century. It was besieged by the Duke of Burgundy in 1472 and famously defended by the women of the town under the leadership of heroine Jeanne Hachette, whose statue you can still see here to this day. Famous nowadays for its ornate cathedral, hiking and cycling routes and artisan shopping emporiums, it’s a great place to visit.
