This quaint wooden town is what sightseers from all over the world come to see. It blends both the new and the old in such a romantic and visually pleasing way. Pikisaari was named after the distillery that was established in the 17th century, and it is known for still being home to Oulu’s oldest wooden buildings. Unfortunately, there is quite a sad history here, as a lot of the wooden structures were burnt during the Crimean War in 1854. If you’re a history buff visiting the area – then this is definitely the place for you.

Visit Nallikari Beach

Only 45 minutes from the city centre is Nallikari Beach – yes, you read that right. It is a seaside resort that is popular all year round, no matter the weather. During the summer months, people lay on sun loungers to get all-important than. But during the winter, the sea freezes over and you can walk on the ocean. Although we love to soak up the sun, there is something truly mystical and unique about spending time on a frozen ocean – how many people can say they’ve walked on the sea?
